KonoSuba: God’s blessing on this wonderful world! (Episode 33) – God’s Blessings for These Unchanging Days!
What happened?
Aldarp was furious that Kazuma had interrupted his wedding to Darkness. He told them that if they wanted her, they would need to pay the two billion Eris debt that she owed him. Kazuma knocked over a large vase to reveal enough gold to cover the debt. Darkness was amazed. Where did he get all that money? He told her that he sold all of his intellectual rights for a lot of money and then added it to all their money from adventuring. He was also very clear that she would repay that money with her body… She thought that meant something other than what Kazuma did and got a little overstimulated. However, they weren’t safe yet!
As they tried to escape from the church, Aldarp’s men closed in around them. Then, Yunyun and Megumin arrived, blowing away one of the walls. Everyone was panicked to see the crazy one – Megumin. However, Aldarp didn’t believe she would use Explosion in the city. Don’t tempt the beast! Megumin began casting. She held the spell above the city as Kazuma, Darkness, and Aqua escaped. However, Aldarp then offered a lot of money to the adventurers to capture Kazuma. Of course, they all ignored his request. Then, Megumin revealed that she couldn’t hold it any longer. The explosive force was somehow contained but the blast was felt through the city. Aqua and Megumin were disappointed to see Kazuma hiding behind Darkness… She wasn’t too impressed either.
They went to see Lord Dustiness, aware that they would need to flee town after interrupting Aldarp’s wedding. Lord Dustiness asked Kazuma to take his daughter and look after her. He joked about why he should be punished but knew the Lord understood. Then, Aqua hit Lord Dustiness with a blast of purifying magic. His illness was actually a curse that she lifted. Aldarp, furious with what happened, went to see the demon he had a contract with, demanding that he fix everything. He even offered to lift the curse if he brought Darkness there now. Amazingly, he heard her voice, although it was Vanir in disguise. He had come to free Maxwell and return him to Hell, but not before getting his payment from Aldarp.
News that Aldarp reached Kazuma, Aqua, and Megumin just as they were about to flee town. Since he was gone, they could stay. Not only that but Kazuma’s money would be paid back to him, however, his intellectual rights couldn’t be recovered. They were happy that they could stay in Axel but were surprised to see Darkness standing in the doorway. She apologised for what she did and asked if they would welcome her back into the party. Of course, they were happy to have her back even if she was a tank that couldn’t hit anything with a sword.

What did you think?
I’ve seen a lot of people who haven’t enjoyed this season of KonoSuba. My only guess as to why that could be is that Megumin hasn’t featured as heavily. She did get a movie, so it only seems fair that Darkness gets to be the focus of this season. As a big Darkness fan, this has obviously made the season that much more enjoyable for me. I haven’t noticed a drop in the style, the jokes, the story, or anything that made the first two seasons so good, so it has to be Megumin. If anything, I think they’ve done an incredible job of maintaining the same energy as before.
This episode showed it perfectly as Vanir pretty much revealed that he had seen everything coming and took full advantage of it, while not burning his bridges with Kazuma. Sure, he got all of his intellectual rights, but he would have known that Kazuma would get the money back. He knew that Maxwell was working for Aldarp and what would happen when the contract was over. Vanir is the All-Seeing Demon for a reason. I loved that the reason Darkness was marrying him was to cover the debt Kazuma incurred when Aqua flooded the city fighting the Dullahan, Beldia. So, not only have we seen all the pieces come together to explain what happened, but we also know that Vanir saw it all coming and used it to make himself rich.
Honestly, I’ve had a great time watching this season of KonoSuba and I just hope that it’s not the last one. Thankfully, I have the manga to get back into and I might even start reading the light novels again. I just can’t spend enough time with these four.

Season Three

I’m still laughing at Kazuma calling Darkness “Divorceness.”
I liked this season every bit as much as the previous. Yes, I love the Crimson demons, and the more YunYun, the better. But Darkness is, well, Darkness! The more Darkness, the better, too!
And, thinking about it, they gave us just the right amount of Aqua. A little Aqua goes a long way; but not enough skews the balance. That might be why I only enjoyed Megumin’s spin off just a lot instead of a whole lot. Which is probably not at all a precise measurement.
Divorceness was good!
I’m all for more Darkness so this season hit all the right notes for me. I’m also a big fan of YunYun, but nowhere near as much as Darkness.
I had completely forgotten about the Megumin spin-off… Will have to get to that. And yes, Aqua has so many great moments and then kind of vanishes for a while before coming back stronger. Love her, too!
