KonoSuba: God’s blessing on this wonderful world! (Episode 23) – God’s Blessings on This Bright Future!
What happened?
Kazuma’s dreams are haunted by Sylvia. He sacrificed himself to love and discovered that Sylvia was a chimaera… so not his type! He’s been a successful adventurer, saving the city time and time again. However, he’s still alone. Sure, he’s got Aqua, Darkness, and Megumin with him, but that’s not what he wants. Not like that, anyhow! So, he’s given up on ever finding a girl and decided to become a holy man. Aqua suggests that he join the Axis Cult. He refused! So, he asked the receptionist to give him directions to the nearest temple and promptly set off, but not before revealing he had a crush on her. Too little, too late!
Aqua, Darkness, and Megumin came with him, however, Megumin became nostalgic since Kazume was the only person to encourage her explosions. She blew up a mountain and had to be carried the rest of the way. Unfortunately, that delay meant that they had to sleep out in the open that night. Megumin tried to convince Kazuma not to become a monk, but just as he almost fell for her charms, he realised she had fallen asleep. On the next day’s journey, they came across a girl sitting on a stump. She appeared to be injured, however, Kazuma warned them that she was a monster and it was a trap. The others refused to listen and eventually, Kazuma got caught up in the lies. However, they managed to leave her there. Then, Kazuma went back and saw who she really was. He even saw her previous victim.
When Kazuma caught up with the others, he had the item the monster’s last victim had been clutching. Aqua thought she recognised it and tried to take a look. However, Kazuma didn’t want her touching his stuff. As they fought over it, money fell out of the end, landing on the floor. They shook it again. More money appeared. With that they turned back, wondering what they would spend their money on. Back home, they ran into Chris, whom Kazuma invited to drink with them, but she had to go. Not long after, Kazuma realised he had lost the magic item. Back to square one. Then, they received an invite from Princess Iris to come and tell her about their heroic deeds. Darkness begged them to not go, knowing that Kazuma would speak out of turn and get them all executed. They decided to go!

What did you think?
So, this is the third of the Spring 2024 shows that I’ve decided to cover episodically. That’s right, all three are sequel seasons, which is good because I love all of these shows, however, in the past, I’ve found the sequel seasons don’t get the attention they probably deserve. Hopefully, this season will be different. Anyhow, it was so nice to be back with Kazuma, Darkness, Aqua, and Megumin. I’ve missed them a lot. I love that we’re instantly going to throw some new characters into the story in the form of Princess Iris… well, she’ll no doubt be in the next episode, but that’s cool. It was great just seeing that nothing had changed.
I’ve talked about a discovery that I made about one of the characters in this series in my previous posts and, well, I’m just going to spill it because I think this season is going to reveal it anyhow. If you don’t want to know run away now. Still here! All right, Chris is Eris. In case you’ve forgotten, Eris is the goddess who took over from Aqua when she was taken to this world by Kazuma. We saw that Aqua recognised the item that Kazuma found and that’s likely because she gave it to someone she reincarnated to this world. Well, it would appear that Chris/Eris is busy cleaning up Aqua’s messes, especially since one of her reincarnations built the Destroyer and the Crimson Demons, and the Robot they fought at the end of last season. It’s hard to know how much Aqua has screwed up this world, but I’m willing to be it’s a lot and I can’t wait to find out!

Season Three

Kind of odd how this final season isn’t a 13-episode cour but I can see the adapted pacing in the previous seasons feel alright even for several people from the anime-only audience. The comedic tone never lost its touch and so far, it’s as good as its previous seasons. Still love the unfortunate antics Kazuma had to go through. It’s obvious who stole that “lucky hammer”. ¯\(◉‿◉)/¯
Both of the first two seasons were ten episodes plus an OVA so I think they’re going to do the same here… maybe…
Either way, it’ll never be enough! And yeah, it was exactly like the episodes before. They didn’t miss a beat.
I have the manga up to volume 16 so I’ll be keen to get into that once this season is over, plus I’ve read several of the light novels.
