KonoSuba: God’s blessing on this wonderful world! (Episode 26) – Divine Punishment for This Handsome Gentleman Thief!
In an attempt to stay in Iris’ good books, Kazuma has vowed to catch the thief who is stealing from the nobles. Their first place to start will be the noble who tried to have Kazuma executed for destroying his house. Small world!
KonoSuba: God’s blessing on this wonderful world! (Episode 26) – Divine Punishment for This Handsome Gentleman Thief!
What happened?
Of course, Kazuma believed that he would get to stay in the castle instead of a noble’s house, especially one who hated him. Luckily, he’s quite soft on Darkness and says that she’s welcome to stay as long as she wants. Unfortunately, everyone else takes that as an invitation so they all settle into a comfortable life… well, until the thief shows up. As Kazuma searches the house, he finds a room that seems out of place and decides to enter. Inside, he finds the noble, Aldarp looking at himself in a mirror. However, on closer examination, Kazuma discovers that the mirror is actually a window into the bathroom. Disturbed by the noble’s behaviour, Kazuma tells him to leave the room because he’s using it now…
Realising that they are not that dissimilar, they try to come to an agreement about who gets to use the room. However, Darkness overheard the conversation and quickly put their plans to sleep. Talking of sleep, Kazuma has been getting up later and later each morning and as such struggles to sleep during the night. One night as he wandered around the mansion, he encountered the thief. Using his abilities, he got close enough to grab them, and grab them he did! However, it turned out that the thief was Chris. She revealed that she was on a mission to remove dangerous items from this world. Kazuma didn’t want to hear it. That’s how he always ended up in trouble.
Kazuma told Chris to run and that he would forget all about her. However, she needed to tie him up so it looked like he had been bested in a fight. Aqua, Darkness, and Megumin found him tied up and decided to make the most of it. Aqua apologised for breaking his stuff while drinking in his room. Darkness and Megumin, however, decided to make him apologise for all the stuff he’s done. The next day, Kazuma reported back to Princess Iris about how he stopped the thief but was unable to catch them. The nobles were dismissive of him, but Iris thanked him for stopping the thief and giving them more information (even if it was all a lie.) Before heading home to Axel, Chris visited Kazuma once more to explain why she was stealing from the nobility.
What did you think?
This series is just fantastic. Everything is so comfortable and natural. There aren’t any shocks, but that seems to make it even more enjoyable. We knew it was Chris who was stealing from the nobles, we knew she stole the hammer that made money from Kazuma, and we knew that she was Eris and that she was trying to clean up the mess that Aqua had made over the years. I love the way Kazuma actively refuses to do anything that he thinks will be dangerous unless there is something in it for him. I love that Megumin is so focused on showing off her explosion magic that she’s willing to attack the Demon King’s army head-on so that she can use it.
The moment when Kazuma discovered the trick mirror was hilarious. I loved how casually he told the noble to leave. It was done so smoothly that he almost did, leaving Kazuma to enjoy the mirror. Then, the two of them trying to come up with a plan so they could both use the mirror was a great development, especially as it allowed Darkness to catch them and enact her divine punishment. The episode ended with them going to face the Demon King’s army outside the capital. I can only imagine that something utterly ridiculous will happen and that somehow Kazuma will die while adding yet another General to his list of achievements. Of course, it will get him nowhere though. I hope they keep making this show long beyond this season.
