KonoSuba: God’s blessing on this wonderful world! (Episode 32) – Blessings for This Selfish Bride!
What happened?
Kazuma has been busy developing new items for Vanir to sell at Wiz’s shop. His latest one is bubble wrap which he is marketing as a stress relief tool. Well, Megumin is determined to take out some of her frustrations at Kazuma’s inaction when it comes to Darkness’ wedding. She needs him to step up. They need to save Darkness so why is he sulking? If he won’t help, then she’ll take care of things. However, an anonymous letter warning that the Demon King will blow up the chapel should the wedding take place results in her going into hiding for several days. When she gets back, Kazuma hasn’t made any progress. She even implies that the man she loved wouldn’t give up, but he’s not falling for that.
Then, Vanir arrives with a big bag of gold. He’s going to inspect Kazuma’s ideas, however, he has a plan to get them all for cheap. As an all-seeing demon, he knows what Kazuma is going to ask him. He also knows the answers. Why was the Dustiness family in such debt? Well, the answer is simple. However, before he can tell Kazuma anything Aqua bursts into the room and exorcises him! Kazuma was furious with Aqua, however, you can’t keep Vanir down for long. He revived himself and then went on with his story. It turns out the Destroyer that they destroyed had already ruined the farmland outside of Axel. The farmers went to Aldarp for help, but he refused. So, they went to the Dustiness family who helped them back on their feet.
However, the Dustiness family was already under severe financial pressure after Aqua flooded Axel when they fought the Dullahan. So, they went to Aldarp for a loan. He agreed provided that Darkness put herself up as collateral. Failure to pay the debt would mean that he would get her! Kazuma couldn’t believe that they were the cause of everything. There was no way he was going to let Darkness marry Aldarp now. However, the wedding was already beginning. The butler walked Darkness down the aisle and told her that a wonderful priestess would be officiating the marriage. Well, this amazing priest referred to Aldarp as an old man who is like a cross between a bear and a pig. She called him old several more times before Kazuma ran out from behind her and grabbed Darkness. Aqua cheered from the Altar as Kazuma stood between Aldarp and Darkness. What would they do next?

What did you think?
This series is incredible. For an episode where almost nothing happened, I was glued to the screen. I loved the way Megumin would stick up for Kazuma while simultaneously calling him Kazutrash or Crapuma. She was upset that they were losing Darkness, but I don’t think she appreciated how much it was hurting Kazuma. Seeing her dancing on his bubble wrap was hilarious too. Then, after she had returned from hiding after her warning letter, she tried to convince Kazuma again, this time insinuating that she loved him. However, the third time she tried to get him to help, he snapped. He told her that he couldn’t see a way to help her. He’d been over it again and again and there was no hope. That was hard to watch. For a series that is so goofy, it can really hit you in the feels when it wants to.
This group is more than just a party now. They are a family and seeing Darkness forced into this awful marriage is hard for all of them. And then Vanir arrived. I love Vanir, but he speaks so quickly that it’s almost impossible to keep up with the subtitles. Take a breath, damn it! Anyhow, of course, Aqua interrupted him. But then, he revealed the ugly truth – they were the ones responsible. It’s always them. One thing that I love more than anything about this show is that everything that happens, happens because of something they did. There are no coincidences, no accidents. It’s always someone’s fault. So, of course, it all came together to force Darkness into a marriage with the awful Aldarp.
The question now is how will they resolve it. I get the feeling that Kazuma isn’t going to give up the money. I think he has another plan that will expose Aldarp for what he truly is. Either way, I can’t wait for the next episode – the season finale! I wonder if we’ll get an OVA for this season too, although the other two seasons were both ten episodes plus an OVA. This season is going to be eleven episodes long, so who knows?
