Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon: My Party Tried to Kill Me, But Thanks to an Infinite Gacha I Got LVL 9999 Friends and Am Out for Revenge (Volume 3) – Unlimited Gacha vs. Infinite Evil!
What happened?
Unfortunately, Miya’s party heard about the Adventurer Slayer too late. They were near the the entrance to the second floor when they found out and decided to instantly head back. However, they didn’t get far enough and were forced to stop in the dungeon. Before they could get moving again, two adventurers approached them. Elio was quick to tell them about the Adventurer Slayers and warn them to head back. Of course, the two adventurers were Kyto and Yanaaq. Elio, Wordy, and Gimra all fought back against Kyto, hoping to buy Miya time to escape and tell the guild, but they were no match for a level 1,500 Elf with a phantasma class weapon.

Miya escaped to Light’s location with thanks to the artifact he gave her. Once she was healed, they used hypnosis to learn everything that happened. Light, Gold, and Nemumu teleported to the dungeon and faced Kyto and Yanaaq. Yanaaq tried to claim that they found them like this and were trying to heal them, but Light obviously new otherwise. Kyto was tired of playing around and quickly attacked Light. Before that fight could begin, Yanaaq summoned his two creations which were hybrids of ogres and humans. He sent them after Gold and Nemumu. However, their incredible healing abilities were nothing when compared to the power of Gold and Nemumu, even as they protected Elio.

Light tested Kyto’s abilities and found them wanting. Sure, he had an impressive weapon, but he had no style or skill. He swung it like a club, much to Gold’s disappointment. However, the sword also had a number of special abilities that forced Light to dodge. Well, if didn’t force him as he showed Kyto later by allowing his strongest attack to hit him directly. Of course, Light laughed it off which showed Kyto that he had no chance to win. Rather than keep fighting, Kyto surrendered, offering Light his sword and any information he wanted, especially everything about the “Master”. Light was not impressed. He teleported them all back to the Abyss where he left his strongest allies to find out what Kyto and Yanaaq knew.

What did you think?
The adventurer arc has been fascinating so far. After being introduced to Light as a victim who managed to get stronger in an attempt to get his revenge, we got to see more to Light’s character. There was a moment when he was talking about Elio, Wordy, Gimra, and Miya, and how he would have loved to have had friends like that when he was younger. It gave him some humanity. It made his decision to defend them and take on Kyto completely believable. I loved that we saw that side of him, but also that it didn’t dull his darker side. He lives for vengeance, and quite frankly he deserves it.

The moment that Kyto revealed that he was a descendant of the “Master” changed their fates. Before that, Light was ready to kill them there and then. He was going to make them suffer for what they did to Miya’s party and the other humans that they had targeted, but Kyto suddenly became more valuable alive… for now. Much like Garou in volume one, I think Kyto is in for a very rude awakening. It’s also interesting that so far, Light hasn’t actually killed anyone he’s sought vengeance against. Is gathering them all up so that they can truly despair? That would be a brutal twist.

The next volume looks like it will get back to the revenge business as Light is ready to move onto his next target – Sasha, the elf. She was only level 308 back at the beginning of the story, so it’s going to be interesting to see if she had levelled up at all. Whatever it is, it’s likely to come close to the increase Light has achieved. I also think he’ll have some help from another of his team. This series is getting better and better. It’s developing the characters, the world, and having a damn good time doing it. That’s probably why the anime starts on October 3, 2025. I’m looking forward to that, too!
