Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon: My Party Tried to Kill Me, But Thanks to an Infinite Gacha I Got LVL 9999 Friends and Am Out for Revenge (Volume 2) – A Mouthful of Vengeance!
What happened?
Light took a small party with him on his quest to become high-ranking adventurers. Gold, a level 5,000 Auric Knight and Nemumu, a level 5,000 Assassin. They plan on going to the Dungeon in Dagas, a city on the border between the Elven and Dwarven territories. Light will become Dark and hide his face in case anyone were to recognise him. Meanwhile, Ellie, his level 9,999 Forbidden Witch is putting together a plan to take out his next target, Sasha.

On their way to Dagas, they saved a travelling merchant who had been ambushed by Dwarf bandits. Unsurprisingly, the merchant is incredibly grateful and gives them a ride to Dagas. He also runs an inn and would be delighted to thank them by putting them up for free. Dark refuses his charity but instead rents an entire floor of the inn and demands the merchant accepts his money. Now they have a secure base to attack the dungeon from. On their first visit to the dungeon, Dark calls out a group who tried to cut the line, gaining the admiration of the other humans in line.

On their way back from killing trolls, they see one group of humans from the line in a battle with some goblins. They were doing well, but failed to notice a snake slithering towards their mage. Dark stops the snake and offers them some advice. Before they could finish their conversation, a giant monster appears. The Quad-Scythe Mantis, a legendary beast that only appears every thirty years and takes an entire guild to defeat. Of course, Dark, Gold, and Nemumu quickly defeat it, gaining even more thanks from the young human party. After saving them again, they ask Dark and the others to stay with them over night.

What did you think?
There were some fairly obvious parallels between Light’s adventurer story and that of Momon in Overlord. However, I think the real difference is that Light is championing humans. Sure, there are going to be some bad ones too, but it’s nice that he’s seeing that there is goodness on the surface after spending three years lamenting in his quest for vengeance. I enjoyed the addition of Gold and Nemumu as they had a fun chemistry that kept things pretty light.

It was fairly obvious that the party who cut the line would become important to this part of the story, however, to learn that the level 1,500 Elf was a descendant of the Master helped to bring this together in a much neater fashion. It was also clear that the young party would become a target of the Elf and that the bracelet Dark gave to Miya would come in handy, too. Basically, there hasn’t been anything too surprising so far, but that’s actually worked in its favour. It’s crystal clear what is going on and what everyone is trying to achieve.

Anyhow, I’m really enjoying this spin on the revenge story and am looking forward to see how things work out. We also got a little bit of an explanation of how dungeons work, or at least, how the mythology behind them is perceived. This feels like important information to keep in mind, and will probably have something to do with the “Master”. The characters are fun to be around, and I also like how Light is able to be kind and generous when appropriate, but also dark and vengeful, too. Bring on the next volume!

I am a simple man. I see a skimpy clad tanned female character, I clicked.
As good a reason as any! I suffer from the same condition…
That title, though!
Yeah, that’s a synopsis, not a title. Things have gotten out of control!
