Please Put Them On, Takamine-san (Volume 7) – Stay Away from Prez!
What happened?
Of course, Takamine shoots them all down, while maintaining her perfect outward appearances. However, she agrees to meet up with Akanishi in the mall, which worries Shirota. He’s heard that he always gets his girl and always seals the deal on the first date. After school, Shirota walked home in a daze trying to work out why he was so bothered by it. Takamine noticed that he was distracted and decided that it must be because she hadn’t used her power that day, so she undid the day and started again. This time, however, she turned down everyone, including Akanishi.

After a particularly crazy Valentine’s Day and White Day, Shirota was still bother by Akanishi who had not relented in his pursuit of Takamine. Then, as he prepared for a study session with Takamine in a café, he noticed Akanishi and two of his friends come in and sit behind him. Eri also came in and sat with Shirota. Then, she proceeded to eat his fries as he was too busy eavesdropping on Akanishi’s conversation. What he heard scared him! Akanishi was boring his friend’s car and planned on going to Takamine’s house to ask her out. Then, he would take her to the mountains. When they were done, he planned on letting his friends go as many rounds as they wanted…

Shirota told Eri to run to Takamine’s house and keep her safe while he confronted Akanishi. Takamine was shocked to see Eri barge into her house and explain the situation in a panic. Even after hearing what was going on, Takamine planned on going to see that Shirota didn’t get hurt. Eri tried everything to stop her, but she was too slipper. Meanwhile, Shirota stood in front of Akanishi’s car and told him to leave Takamine alone. Akanishi didn’t take too well to being told to back off and hit Shirota. Then, as thinks escalated, Takamine arrived and warned them both to stop. Shirota told Akanishi that he heard what he was planning. Akanishi stopped and asked to speak to Shirota alone, promising that after he would leave Takamine alone!

What did you think?
The first half of this volume was broken up into a number of small, fun scenes. The Valentine’s day one was particularly funny when it turned out that Takamine had prepared two fake chocolates, while Shirota’s real chocolate treat was the chocolate bikini, she was wearing. Since, he didn’t guess, he didn’t get to eat it… Poor Shirota. At least, he didn’t lick the drop of chocolate off the floor that Takamine had arranged so that she could get a scandalous photo. All of these scenes were fun, but they also didn’t feel like they were going anywhere.

Then, we saw Shirota having a hard time with the guys all asking Takamine out. He got worried that his White Day gift was too cheap to give to her. Of course, she always reassured him while also making it seem like she was chastising him. I swear, they would be so much better off if she just told him how she feels about him. The Akanishi story was good, especially as it was resolved as a misunderstanding for Shirota, but Akanishi also noted that Shirota must really like Takamine to go to those lengths. Shirota didn’t realise until that moment how he felt. That’s a big step!

However, that was nothing compared to the fight between Takamine and Eri. As Eri desperately tried to stop Takamine, she pretty much undressed her and then held her, begging her to let Shirota do this as he was trying so hard to be manly and look out for her. That alone was proof that he had feelings for her. Then, Takamine said that if he did have feelings for her, it was nothing compared to how she felt. I continue to believe that Takamine has redone the school years over and over again in an attempt to save Shirota. At first, I thought that it was just because she loved him, but I feel like there’s more to it than that. In the fashion of great time travel stories, I think there’s going to be a big twist/revelation at some point that sends this series to unexpected heights.
