NaNoWriMo Update (Week Two)

For my second week of NaNoWriMo, I have come out fighting and am in the process of beating this word count to a pulp. If you’re still in, I can only hope that you’re doing as well as I am. It’s a stark difference from week one!
Week Two Update
For this post, I will be analyzing my progress from November 9 to November 15. Unlike my last update, this will be focused on a full week. Therefore, I had seven possible writing days, which would mean I needed to write 11,667 words, but I was 4,594 short from the first update. Sounds like I had a lot of work to do, so what did I manage…

This week was awesome. Not only was I completely engrossed in my story, but I am rediscovering my love of writing fiction again. Two years ago, I was flying and would write more than fifty-thousand words every month, but then I took a year off to look after my youngest son and then as I was trying to get back into it, the pandemic hit. Admittedly, I did turn my focus to blogging during that time as it was easier to write a blog post here and there and not worry about interruptions.
On the final day of last week, I managed to write 2,150 words and that really kicked things off. Since then, I’ve not missed a day. That’s right, I just put an eight-day streak together and at this point, all I’ll say is that I beat the daily target on each and every one of them. That, of course, means that I am eating into the deficit I carried over from last week. So, the big question now is whether I caught up or have I still got some work to do?

Honestly, I am surprised at just how much fun I’m having writing this story, especially as it’s not the type of story I would usually write. I tend towards dark fantasy with lots of fights and action. So far, there hasn’t been a single fight scene and the action has been a lot less intense. I do wonder if I’ve been influenced by some of my favourite shows of late – BOFURI, Princess Connect, etc. It feels like, especially with the current situation, I just want to have some fun and this story is giving me that in spades.
So, here’s how I did.
- Nov 9 – 1,892 words
- Nov 10 – 1,901 words
- Nov 11 – 1,946 words
- Nov 12 – 2,638 words
- Nov 13 – 2,420 words
- Nov 14 – 2,136 words
- Nov 15 – 2,044 words
That brought my total word count to 23,716 which is just 1,284 words behind target. It feels really good to claw it back like that, but even better to put a nice streak together. One of the most interesting things about my schedule so far is that I have been writing between 22:00 and 00:00 each night, and even then, I’m not writing solid. There’s a lot of potential to increase my daily word count further.

Keep it up!!
Thanks, Winter. Glad to see you’re still around. Are you thinking of starting posting again?
Yes, I can’t stay away from here. I don’t know if the content is going to remain the same. A lot has happened this year in my personal life. From losing very dear members of the family to financial woes because of the pandemic, I have been on quite the roller coaster. But I still write and I want to be able to share my thoughts.
I love anime, movies, and shows but I feel like I’m being pulled in another direction right now. But definitely will be seeing me soon.
I hope things are starting to get a bit better. The world is just a little bit crazier at the moment. I think we’re all getting a little tired of this and would love for it all to settle down.
Whatever you write about, I’ll be sure to read it. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
Good work!
Thanks. It feels good getting all these words out. Feeling positive about reaching the finish line.
18th. 38507. Not done for today
Nice. You’ll be done soon!
I’m at 27.7k for today and hoping to get another 2k tonight.
