Sister and Giant: A Young Lady Is Reborn in Another World (Volume 2) – I Know Exactly Who Our Enemy Is!

What happened?

Carla had been captured by a group of slavers and was being taken to auction when a Man-eater attacked. The slavers attempted to leave Carla as bait so that they could escape, however, Ellis burst onto the scene before that could happen, slaying the Man-eater with her magic. After discussing their situation with the men, who Ellis and Hinako didn’t know were slave traders, they left to have a bath. While they were unwinding, the slaver traders plotted to capture them both and sell them along with Carla. They would make a fortune. Suddenly, however, more Man-eaters attacked.

Hinako rushed from their bath and saved Carla while Ellis fought off the Man-eaters. Carla was inspired by Hinako’s actions despite not having any sort of power. As such, she asked to join their clan, however, Hinako felt the need to consult her father before accepting. Things went smoothly once they arrived at the giants village, who were now able to make a good living thanks to Hinako’s help. Her father accepted her request, although he was surprised to see that she felt the need to ask permission. However, the real reason he was so agreeable and had allowed Ellis and Hinako to join his clan because of their similarities to an old legend about a White Titan who was led by a Dark Shadow…

They continued their journey to the Capitol and came across a caravan being attacked by wyverns. Ellis slayed the winged beasts with ease. One of the people travelling with the caravan was Takeru, another otherworlder. He had the cheat [Death Reset] which allowed him to return to a previous point whenever he died. Carla warned him to be careful who he told that to since this world had developed a very sinister way of utilising otherworlders cheats. He thanked them and continued on his journey. Unfortunately, his journey was about to come to a premature end.

What did you think?

It’s been a while since I read a book and found myself lying awake at night pondering the things that happened. This series is incredibly dark. The first volume made that clear, but this one showed us exactly how bad things are. The people of this world have developed ways of utilising otherworlders, effectively stealing their cheat skills and selling them to the highest bidder. We saw that with Takeru who was effectively carved up and sold in pieces. His brain and heart were sealed inside a box that would be magically sealed to its owner. That person would then be able to use it as a Save Point, cheating death.

Carla realised instantly what had happened. She had tried to warn him after all. However, when Hinako realised, she was ready to attack the Capitol there and then, and Ellis was ready to make that happen. However, Carla managed to reason with her. Regardless, Hinako had just discoverer who her true enemy was. Then, as they left the auction, she bumped in Junko, the girl she had pushed in front of the train that brough them to this world. The best thing here is that I’m absolutely certain that Junko was the person who bought the Save Point made from Takeru.

On top of all of that, we learned that Ellis may be the bringer of doom, especially as she fits the description of the White Titan and Hinako is definitely the Dark Shadow who leads her. Carla is also obviously a demon as she has control over the Man-eaters. I can see Hinako and Ellis ending up on the side of the demons as they attempt to destroy the humans and their wicked church. We also are yet to find out how Hinako lost her arm. I doubt that’s going to be a pleasant story. The idea that humans are using the otherworlders in this way is wonderfully twisted. It reminds me of The Executioner and Her Way of Life, but far darker.
