Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls (OVA 2) – Everyday Life when Rachnera Disappears

What happened?

Rachnera has been dreaming about the incident that caused her previous host family to sell her to the sleazy director who attempted to take advantage of Papi. It’s no surprise since she’s been receiving letters asking for her to come back. Then, she received another letter stating that a representative of the previous family would visit to go over the transfer. However, for that to happen, Kimihito would need to sign the transfer papers, and he’s out. Luckily, the girls take it upon themselves to see if the family is up to the task, especially since they already tossed her out once!

The representative arrives, and to everyone’s shock, it’s Ren Kunanzuki, the daughter of the family. She’s come alone and is determined to show that she plans on looking after Rachnera, especially as it was her fault that her parents tossed her out in the first place. Papi greets her and then instantly forgets her name. Then, in an attempt to prove herself, she eats Mia’s cooking, which almost killed her. Suu jumped on Ren cleaning off the spilled food, subjecting her to more torture… Mero gave her some replacement clothes, but that didn’t go well either.

Finally, it fell to Centorea to assess her worth. After conducting a stern interview where Centorea didn’t hold back, Ren managed to come out the other side having convinced the girls that she was going to do her best to live with Rachnera. Then, Kimihito came home and was quickly brought up to speed. He listened to Ren explain her side of things, but then started to hand out coffees among the girls. Eventually, when Ren had finished, Kimihito refused to sign the papers. He told her that Rachnera wasn’t something you can learn to live with or try to accept. She was a person and she needed to be treated like one. Ren left in a hurry, declaring that she would do better next time!

What did you think?

This was another great use of an OVA. It gave us a chance to see all of the girls, focusing on their personalities and traits while filling in a part of the story that was glossed over in the main season. We kind of understood what happened with Rachnera, but this was a good way to cement that and show us the severity of what happened. I still can’t believe they sold the hosting rights to another person, regardless of how sleazy he was. I’m also surprised that Agent Smith wasn’t on top of things, ensuring that it didn’t happen… or maybe not, she is a bit of scatterbrain.

As much as I enjoyed the efforts of Ren to prove herself, and they were funny, there was also a longer bonus scene after the ED. Luckily, I love the ED so listen to it every time. That was when I noticed the extra scene which was Mia hosting some sort of bra party where she educated the girls and the MON girls on how to correct put on a bra. Then, she handed out a load for them all to try, with varying levels of success. I think Suu had it the roughest, although getting the sizes right seemed to be a real issue. Then, things took a turn when Rachnera revealed that she was more interested in stockings, which caused Mia to go into a frenzy since she can’t wear stockings.

One of my favourite things with this OVA was the way Kimihito handled things with Ren. I have a feeling he made up his mind within the first few seconds of Ren talking as he pretty much ignored her and started handing drinks around. At first, I thought that was oddly rude for Kimihito, but on reflection, he had heard enough and knew that there wasn’t anything she could say that would change his mind. And, he was right. The OVAs have continued to be entertaining while delivering a thought-provoking message at the same time. I’ve loved this series and will be diving into the manga very soon.
