How Not to Summon a Demon Lord (Volume 21) – At My Signal, Unleash Hell!

Galford takes care of Ryoka, but that just makes Modinaram want to join the fight in person. Will they be able to stop the Demon Overlord or are the races done for? That would mean no more cookies, and Klem does not want to see that happen!
How Not to Summon a Demon Lord (Volume 21) – At My Signal, Unleash Hell!
What happened?
Galford was there when the races last fought the demon lord. He used the ability Shining Sword to cut it down then, and he’s not about to make an exception for Ryoka, especially since she seemed to enjoy mocking the humans. Even so, Ryoka is determined to prove herself and continue to rise up the ranks of the Fallen army. Her repeated attacks break Galford’s Shining Sword. However, when she goes for the kill, he reveals that he has two Shining Swords by removing her hands. She tries to flee, but he finishes her with ease. It was impressive, but Galford may yet regret it.

Modinaram emerged from the black box, determined to join the fight in person. This seems like a great time to show the races how powerful he has become after consuming other Demon Lords. Emile and Galford attempt to stand their ground, but the power difference is staggering. Having already lost an arm and broken the other, Galford was moments away from death when Klem and Edelgard joined the fight. Klem sent Modinaram flying, giving Galford cause to believe that she really is a Demon Lord. Modinaram is forced to unleash his full power, shifting the battle in his favour once more.

Klem is mortally wounded as Modinaram attempts to steal her powers for himself. Then, he unleashed a powerful attack on the city. Everyone was hurt even more, but Edelgard protected Klem’s body from the full impact of the attack. Emile was the first to climb to his feet and proclaim that he would fight Modinaram to protect the women and the city. Then, he heard the words he’d been waiting for. Diablo arrived an offered to take over. Rem and Shera gathered the injured and healed them with potions, however, Klem could not be healed. Rather than lose her, Rem used the fragment of Krebskulm that Rafflesia had removed from her to save Klem. Meanwhile, Diablo prepared to unleash a massive attack as Rose and Sasara kept Modinaram busy.

What did you think?
Simply amazing. This volume was one endless battle. It was relentless and soul crushing, and I absolutely loved it. I was shocked when Galford killed Ryoka, and even more so to learn that it had been Eulerex’s plan from the beginning to remove a young promising Fallen who might usurp him as general. Their really is no honour in the Fallen ranks. Modinaram’s original form was enough to strike fear into Galford, Laminitus, and Emile. We got to see some of his abilities too as he quickly destroyed Galford. Emile continues to fight on even though he is massively out of his depth. You’ve got love that about him. He never gives up.

He’s also incredibly insightful as he seems to be able to read the battles well, making remarkable judgement calls. He also noticed Edelgard’s beauty so he’s got that going for him too! I certainly wasn’t expecting Klem to get defeated like that, but it also was a nice way to bring the whole Demon Lord’s soul living inside Rem to a complete closure. Then, we got to see Diablo, Rose, and Sasara fighting against Modinaram who was determined to steal Diablo’s magical power.

We’ve seen Diablo use his three strongest spells together before, but unlike last time, he needed Rose and Sasara to stop Modinaram from interupting the casting. He’s definitely grown during his time in this world, but his knowledge of the game has proven to be one of his best assets. He knew the abilities that Modinaram had gained and knew exactly how to use them against him. Imagine using the most powerful magic attack in the game on someone with a magic reflection item. This was an excellent volume. I couldn’t put it down for even a second.
