Having received a special quest from the Governor of Faltra, Diablo was preparing to get to it when Celestine came by to introduce him to a slaver who might help him with the enslavement collars on Rem and Shera!

What happened?
Diablo took Rem and Shera to the Slave market accompanied by Alicia. They went inside and were surprised to see how clean and unthreatening it was. That said, Medios, the owner did offer to buy Shera and Rem from him. Refusing her offer, Diablo showed her a letter from Celestine. It turned out Medios and Celestine went way back and as such, she was willing to help Diablo, however, she would like to keep the process to as few people as possible. Rem and Alicia stepped outside which was fine with Rem since Medios could sense the aura of the Demon Lord Krebskulm inside her. Shera had to remove her clothes since they were imbued with magic. Luckily, Medios had a change of clothes that would work perfectly… Anyhow, Diablo placed his hand on her chest and felt for her magical energy. It ended up being just below her naval, so it took a while to find. Then, he poured his magic into her attempting to break the enslavement spell. However, it was a tangled mess and would take some time to break. At least, he made some progress.
After returning to their room to prepare for bed, they were visited by Shera’s brother, Keera and he wanted her to come back with him. Shera refused and Diablo stepped in telling Keera to leave before he turned him to ashes. Keera backed down but revealed he would return in the morning to get Shera’s answer. That night, Diablo overheard Shera and Rem talking about running a cafe at some time in the future. They wanted Diablo to be there too. He was pretending to be asleep but was stunned to find out that they saw him as their friend. He’d never really had a friend before. Unfortunately, the next morning, Keera returned for Shera’s answer while Rem and Alicia were away. Shera told Diablo that she was going back to her home, abandoning him. He wasn’t surprised since that was always how it went. Then, when Rem came back and revealed that she was going to save her, Diablo realised that he needed to step up too. There was something decidedly off about her sudden change of heart.
What did you think?
I’m not sure if it’s just the fact that you can slow down easier while reading the manga or that there is just that much more detail. Either way, I love being back in this world and reliving this story once more. The scene at the slave market was a lot more eye-opening than in the anime and I’m not just talking about the costume Shera put on. One of the most interesting things was how Alicia performed a good luck charm on Rem’s hand and it resulted in a magical reaction. I wonder if that was the moment that Alicia realised that Rem was the host of Krebskulm. It certainly seemed that way. Also, as much as I hate Keera, it was hilarious to see his absurd facial expressions again as he tried to antagonise Diablo or when Diablo destroyed his indestructible world-ending summons.
It was also a huge relief to see Galford kill him as he ran away after Shera asked Diablo not to go after him. Keera definitely deserved it after what he did to Shera. The scene with the slime was remarkably short compared to the anime which makes sense. It’s interesting to see which parts of the story get more attention from the animation team and what gets trimmed back. Anyhow, it was another great volume and it ended with Diablo about to fight Galford which happened in the eighth episode of the anime. So, we’re not that far from the end of the first season.
What was your highlight?
Diablo is always learning. He may have been a genius in Crossreverie, but things are a little different here so he’s having to test things out and learn as he goes which makes things all the more dangerous since he has no idea what would happen to him if he died. I liked how he was experimenting with potion-making. In the game, it is all done for you so he had no idea what to do with the ingredients here, however, when he was distracted by Shera’s boobs, his body went into autopilot and quickly crafted the potions. I can’t think of a better way to make potions!
On top of that, Diablo got a lot out of the meeting with Medios. He learned about the way magic is structured in this world and that he has a terrifying magical aura that Shera can see. The most useful thing was about finding the core of the magic and being able to untangle the spells. He used that method to easily break out of Galford’s unbreakable magic barrier. Yet another wonderfully overconfident character realising that they may not be as special as they think they are. I can’t wait for their fight as it was the first time Diablo was pushed at all in the anime so I hope it’s the same here.
