How Not to Summon a Demon Lord (Volume 16) – The Demon Lord and the Dark Elves!
What happened?
Luckily, Sylive and Rem are quick to jump in before Diablo has a chance to ruin things. Well, almost. Rafflesia is the dark elf chieftain and she is none too pleased to see Shera there. She guessed that Shera was a member of the royal family. Rafflesia hasn’t forgotten what happened a hundred years ago when the dark elves were driven out of Greenwood. Looks like it’s time for Diablo to step in and smooth things over…
Diablo introduces himself as a Demon Lord from another world and instant gets attacked by Rafflesia’s guards who also attempt to take Shera as a hostage. Of course, they aren’t a match for Diablo who swats them away with wind magic. Rafflesia is quick to stop the attacks and apologise, but she’s still not prepared to help Shera, not without some sort of consession. She wants land in Greenwood for the Dark Elves in exchange for removing the fragment of Krebskulm’s soul from Rem. She doesn’t expect Shera to accept. Even Diablo can’t see it happening. However, Shera accepts without hesitation.
So, Rafflesia agrees to perform the ritual. Diablo and Shera demand to go with them, which is fine, although they will all need to be cleansed before going to the temple. And once they are cleansed, they need to stay that way until it’s over. So they have to walk through the village to the temple in the nude. Diablo is falling apart inside, but maintains the appearance of demon lord. Rem, however, is struggling the most. The ritual is a success, which means in now falls to Shera to follow up on her promise. Rafflesia goes with them to Greenwood where the Queen also agrees to Shera’s promise, however, there is one thing they need to take care of first. Shera needs to marry so that there is an elf king, and someone has already been selected!
What did you think?
As soon as I saw the cover of this volume, I knew we were in for a good time. What is it about these dark elves? Anyhow, I have a feeling that there is a lot more going on in Greenwood than we have seen. The way Shera’s mother was acting was suspicious and while she may be telling the truth about Shera’s father trying to fight for the dark elves, my gut is telling me that she’s being controlled somehow by the rather interesting looking gentleman who has been selected as the next King. He’s got to be behind this.
Things are definintely progressing in the relationship department, especially as Shera outright stated that she had hoped to marry Diablo. Would that make him king of the elves or would she need to denounce the throne, which seems impossible as she’s the last blood relative to the previous king? Obviously, things have already been decided, especially since Shera got that ring back in Diablo’s dungeon. I get the feeling that will solve all of the issues at hand.
The other thing that seemed odd was how Rafflesia left as soon as the Queen said that she wanted to mend relations between the elves and the dark elves. I think she realised that something was up too and wanted to put some distance between, possibly even preparing for some sort of attack from Shera’s fiance. I think the Demon Lord is behind this, especially as there seems to be another active Demon Lord beside Klem. This volume raised lots of questions, delivered on the promise of the dark elves, and probably had the most nudity of all the volumes to date! Hopefully, the next volume can top that!
