What happened?

While the Warmaster was in his baby form, Rosalie pleaded with Seiya to leave him out of his plans to defeat the Demon Lord. He might be strong, but then there was the baby thing to deal with, and it was becoming more frequent. She also revealed that Warmaster had been on a mission to defeat the Demon Lord when he first turned into a baby. Seiya had no issue with leaving the old geezer out of it. Unless he wanted to carry some bags!

Once Wohlks had returned to normal, he met with Seiya and Ristarte; however, a guard rushed in and informed them that more monsters were attacking the city. Seiya said he’d deal with it, leaving Wohlks to show Ristarte around the temple he had built for the goddesses. Wohlks revealed that knew how gods and goddesses were immortal. He knew that their souls were stored in a separate location from their bodies. It was the same for heroes, which was why they didn’t die if they were killed in another world. He told her that the Demon Lord had developed a weapon that could kill a god, and that he had that weapon.

Wohlks saw the power of the Demon Lord first hand and realised that he could never defeat him. That was when he first turned into a baby and became a minion of the Demon Lord. He planned on killing Ristarte and then Seiya; however, Seiya arrived in time to save her. Then, he took the battle to Wohlks. It was fast and furious, with Ristarte barely able to keep up with their movements. Wohlks used a gift from the Demon Lord that restored his youth, making him even faster. Seiya was forced to sacrifice his arm to win, however, it showed just how far behind the Demon Lord he was!

What did you think?

It was awesome seeing Seiya getting pushed back. For all of his careful planning and cautiousness, he struggled against Wohlks in his demon form. The fight itself was intense, and it was hard to see how Seiya was going to win. Then, he revealed that he had been wearing a lot of weights to slow his movements down. As soon as they were all off, he was able to match Wohlks’ speed. Still, it was an amazing fight, and while I saw his betrayal coming, the Warmaster certainly made for an interesting minor villain.

I always enjoy the interactions between Seiya and Ristarte, and this scene offered plenty of good moments too. Failing to catch her was funny, and the showdown between the herb seller was hilarious. I thought the way that Seiya reacted to Rosalie refusing to acknowledge her father as he died was telling. Seiya has suffered in the past and clearly knows what it’s like to lose someone and not be able to say goodbye. That said, Seiya telling Ristarte, Mash, and Elulu to have two or three days of fun before continuing was a far too obvious lie. Something from his past was exposed, and it’s hitting him hard. For a fantasy comedy, this series is surprisingly intricate.

The best thing about this episode was how it subtly foreshadowed the Warmaster’s betrayal. Rosalie had done the most to prepare us for this, as she constantly berated Seiya for not acting like a hero would and how he wasn’t a true hero like her father. This is understandable from a daughter-father relationship, but I think they pushed it just enough for you to register that something was up. That was enough for me to question his position. I love little details like this because when something unexpected happens, it feels much more satisfying when you’ve been prepared, even if it’s the slightest hint.
