Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious (Episode 4) - I So Don't Need Any Allies

With the church ablaze, a group of knights come to see what’s going on and once the nun has confirmed Seiya’s story, they ask for his help with the army of the undead. Mash and Elulu offer to help, but Seiya doesn’t need any help!

What happened?

Before Seiya is willing to help with the undead army, he demands that they pay him for his help. This obviously upsets Ristarte as he’s supposed to be the hero and asking for payment is not very heroic. She’s starting to wonder if she made the right choice with Seiya. The knights, however, agree and Seiya prepares to attack, but first, he tells Mash and Elulu that he can do it alone and doesn’t need their help. It also turns out that Seiya has learnt how to fly and races to attack the undead army., destroying it with a massive attack. With things calm, Seiya puts his reward money into his new synthesis skill. Mash, however, has gone missing, captured by Deathmagla who thinks he’s prepared for Seiya, but no one out prepares Seiya.

What was your favourite element?

I loved how blunt Seiya was with Ishtar and everyone for that matter, but it was his confrontation with Deathmagla that really set this episode on fire. Seiya had been busy with his synthesis skill and made magical swords and bracelets that allowed him to use all different types of magic. Each had been infused with Ristarte’s hair… Deathmagla believing that he had prepared for the hero perfectly was surprised to learn that Seiya believed that to be normal preparation and proceeded to show him how a cautious hero prepares for everything, even his opponent’s preparation!

What have you learnt?

We’re starting to see a little bit of the reason that Seiya is so prepared and that there appears to be some sort of connection to Ishtar. I love it when different elements in a story start to come together to make it all work in harmony. It definitely stems from the idea that no action or dialogue should be wasted. If it doesn’t move the story forward or develop the character, what is it doing there? It’s all right for that to not be apparent as it happens, but there needs to be that moment where it all comes together. There’s obviously more to it in Cautious Hero and I’m looking forward to seeing how it all fits together perfectly.
