Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious (Episode 4) – I So Don’t Need Any Allies

What happened?

The knights offer to help Seiya in any way they can, but he doesn’t need their help. What he needs is confirmation of the reward money and he’d like it in writing. He also tells Mash and Elulu that he doesn’t need their help either. Kids would just get in his way. Finally, he turns to Ristarte and tells her that he doesn’t need her help either, and with that, he flies into the air. Ristarte calls on her godly powers to give herself wings so that she can keep up with him. However, he’s way too fast for her. Surprisingly, he comes back, grabs her hand, and then takes off again with her in tow. The speed is a bit much for Ristarte and her clothes! Finally, they arrive at the undead army. It’s huge, but not to worry, Seiya has a plan. He uses magic to summon a flaming meteor from the sky and drops it on the army, vapourising them in an instant. To make sure, he summons a second one. You can never be too careful.

After returning from the battle… Seiya received his reward and then spent the next couple of days in his room playing with his new synthesis skills. Ristarte is getting impatient as always but then Elulu shows up and tells her that she hasn’t seen Mash in a couple of days. It’s a little odd so they go and see Seiya who has been busily crafting away using Ristarte’s hair as the catalyst to make powerful magic items. Then, the innkeeper shows up with a delivery from a suspicious hooded man. It’s a mirror. As Ristarte gazes at herself in the mirror the image changes to show Mash tied to a chair. Then, Deathmagla introduces himself and reveals that he is going to kill Mash and then come after them. Seiya uses a photon sword to cut Deathmagla’s hand off through the mirror before rushing back to the Divine Realm. This time, he has a plan.

What did you think?

This might be the best episode yet. Seiya still appears to be a bit of a jerk with his demands of money and the way he treats people, however, even Ristarte noticed that there is more to him and he may actually care for people. I loved the scene with Ishtar and how blunt Seiya was with her, calling her granny and demanding she open a portal for him. Of course, once he had gone, she commented on how much he’d grown, implying that she had met him before…

The meteor skill was fantastic and exactly what you should expect from Seiya. It was funny that he came up with the idea for it while pounding on Cerseus. We’re definitely seeing a bit of growth from him as he came back for Ristarte and took her with him. He tried to keep Mash and Elulu out of the fight to protect them and the scene with Chaos Machina where she was threatening to kill the child had obviously been playing on his mind for some time since he developed a weapon specifically for cutting through space. His gruff exterior and sharp tongue are clearly an act that he uses to keep people away so that they don’t get hurt.

What was your highlight?

The best thing in the episode was the way that Deathmagla believed that he had perfectly prepared for the hero with his monster who was only weak to martial arts skills and ice magic. And then, once frozen only fire magic could do enough damage to defeat it. Basically, it was impossible for Seiya to defeat it and Deathmagla was so confident he basically told them exactly how to defeat it. Of course, to Seiya this was not perfectly prepared, this was just normal preparations. He had made plans for a number of scenarios where he might lose his sword and would need to fight with his hands. He’d also been busy synthesising magic bracelets in every possible form of magic and even some spares. Ristarte was starting to wonder if she was going bald with all the hair he had been using.

Anyhow, Seiya now knew exactly what he needed to do, so he did it, easily defeating Deathmagla’s monster and then pounding him out of existence while Ristarte took Mash back to their inn. Like every other time, it looked like Seiya had perfectly predicted what would happen and how best to counter it. However, he had taken things even further and prepared for every single possible outcome. No matter what obstacle Deathmagla had thrown at him, he would have been able to counter it. This episode was hilarious and it was all down to Seiya’s insane levels of preparation.
