I’m a Behemoth, an S-Ranked Monster, but Mistaken for a Cat, I Live as an Elf Girl’s Pet (Volume 9) – A Fur-rocious Battle!

What happened?

The Fiend was Vasago, one of the Demon Lord Mammon’s servants. He was tasked with reviving his master and saw the group of heroes as nothing more than annoying flies. Before they could attack, he summoned two powerful beasts, Cyclops and Orthros. The beasts could speak and were clearly incredibly powerful. They attacked without hesitation. Only Tama seemed to be able to do any damage, but even that was not enough to hurt them for long. Meanwhile, Alisha, the Sword Saint, had arrived at the location of her target. It was Levi, and she clearly had a long-standing hatred for Alisha. Even empowered by the Demon Lord, Levi was no match for Alisha, who ended the fight in seconds. Back with Aria’s party, Tama was forced to activate her Third Form even if it would reveal that he was a behemoth. However, when they saw him, even Prince Julius, they all believed him to be the return of the Sacred Beast who helped a hero many years ago.

In this new form, Tama quickly overpowered Orthros. The Cyclops, realising that he had no hopes of defeating Tama, made one last attack, determined to take someone down with him. Since Tama was already attacking Orthros, he could do nothing to stop the Cyclops’ spear from flying towards Feri and Lily. Stella ran in front of them and raised her shield. She knew that the force would kill her, but she would have protected her friends. Vulcan yelled at her to get out of the way, but Stella’s mind was made up. Then, just when everything seemed unstoppable, Aria finally gained a derived ability. Sacred Blade upgraded to Excalibur, allowing her to obliterate the Cyclops and his attack. They won, but Vasago escaped to the Demon Realm. He would be back with his full force, and they knew where he would appear!

What did you think?

All right, this was an epic battle. I loved how they were completely outmatched even with their artefacts and their new skills. Tama was forced to use his trump card, which fortunately didn’t reveal his secret. However, now they think he’s the Sacred Beast. Anyhow, even with Tama’s new form, he could only fight one of the monsters at a time, and that gave the Cyclops the chance to try to take someone with him. Stella has grown a lot since she first appeared in the series and to think that she would sacrifice herself to save the others was incredible. I’m glad that she didn’t die and that Aria was able to power herself up from the sheer emotional terror of what might happen. I loved the moment after the fight when Aria raced to hug Stella with Tama sandwiched between them.

It also showed in this volume just how far behind Alisha Aria is. Alisha is on a different level entirely. To think that Aria may one day get to that level is fantastic and I can’t wait to see if she gets there along with the rest of the party. If they all continue to grow, they will be unbelievable. Hopefully, that’s where this story is heading. The volume ended with everyone going to Aria’s home because they believed that Vasago would attack there to attempt to steal the Philosopher’s Stone so that he could use its magic to revive the Demon Lord. I think there will be more to it than that, and Vasago will end up reviving the Demon Lord, but probably with another source of magic. That will give this party something incredible to work towards and drive them to absolute greatness. I’ve only got two more volumes to read before I’ve caught up to the release schedule. That’s not going to be enough!

What was your highlight?

When they went to Aria’s home, they met Fione and Leo. Fione is one of Aria’s old friends and Leo is her Elemental Cat – the one who saved her from becoming a slave and the driving force behind Aria’s love of cats. Of course, Tama is concerned that they will realise that he’s not an Elemental Cat when they compare the two. Well, things took a very strange twist. Leo could no doubt tell just how powerful Tama was and instantly submitted to him. Everyone was quite surprised to see a fully grown Elemental Cat rolling on its back in front of a tiny kitten. Anyhow, that was quite a funny moment and I liked how it played into the way animals interact.

We also learned that the elves have recently been expanding their domain and have brought in several other races to live together. One of those groups is the Amazonesses. And just when you thought this couldn’t get any better. This is going to be a sexy version of the Battle of Helm’s Deep! I can’t wait to see how things develop now. This series is a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to finally watching the first season of the anime… once I’ve read two more books.
