I’m a Behemoth, an S-Ranked Monster, but Mistaken for a Cat, I Live as an Elf Girl’s Pet (Volume 6) – The Breast of Friends!

What happened?

On their way to the city, they bumped into another group of adventurers heading towards the forest dungeon. Aria gave them some advice about the monsters they would face and then continued on to the city. They sold their treasure from the dungeon to Leis and then went to get some food. Everyone was shocked to see a pixie and a dryad, but no one made too big of a deal about it. They saw the adventurers from early in the tavern who were grateful for the advice and offered to buy everyone drinks. During the celebrations, Aria learned about the dark secret of this city and how the lord would steal attractive young women for his amusement. Tama took particular interest in this, especially as Leis’ fiance was apparently one of the girls taken. The next morning, they headed back to the dungeon to face the boss. However, Feri and Lily would not go in, insisting that they would be safe in the forest since that was their home.

Aria, Stella, and Tama made quick work of the Treant Drake since it was weak to fire attacks. They even found a scroll written in the ancient text that no one could read. Tama insisted that Aria use it rather than sell it. Stella agreed. Aria gained an ancient skill giving her a holy attack. It was just what Tama had hoped for. However, when they came out of the boss room, they couldn’t find Feri or Lily anywhere. As they searched, they bumped into Danny and the rest of Cedric’s team. They warned them about the city, reinforcing what they heard from the other adventurers. After failing to find them, they returned to the tavern where they were met by the Lord’s butler who insisted that they come with him. Despite the horror on the faces of everyone in the tavern, Aria agreed, but she had a plan. They challenged the Lord telling him that they had a way to reveal his secrets, but then the city was attacked by an undead army, forcing them to change their plans. Saving the citizens came first!

What did you think?

I think I might have enjoyed this volume more than any of the other ones so far. It might have something to do with the way Stella and Aria began to click as a party and it might have been partially because of the care and attention the artist has taken in some of the pictures of Stella. The one on the cover instantly caught my attention given how muscular she was and the artwork within the book, especially the fight scenes, was just as incredible. Aria might have seemed like the obvious choice at the beginning of the series, but Stella has very quickly become my favourite character in this series. Damn, those muscles!!!

Anyhow, my concerns that Aria would use the Teardrops of Truth to work out what was going on between Tama and Stella were quickly dismissed as Aria used them to make the wicked Lord confess to his crimes. It was a nice way to finish things off and it definitely seemed like a suitable outcome, although Stella smashing him into a pulp would have also been fine. The one thing that I noticed that makes me think there’s more to this was that Leis said that he became a necromancer after his fiance was taken and that he was told he would only be able to summon two skeletons. Who told him that and who helped him become a necromancer? I’m guessing a demon looking to prey on his need for revenge. Could this be the first sign that something bigger is coming? I hope so!

What was your highlight?

Stella’s muscles… In the last volume, and I’ve checked, Stella was not nearly as well defined. This has been a wonderful decision by Taro Shinonome. In fact, if Taro Shinonome were to release an art book of drawings of Stella like this, I would absolutely buy myself a copy. Stella was already quickly becoming my favourite character, but this has cemented it beyond any doubt. She already had a huge sword and was ferocious in battle. Her straightforward approach to life was refreshing. Basically, this series just went from being a very entertaining fantasy adventure to a story that I need to see through to the end no matter what.

I still think the series needs a defining goal such as a singular villain to drive the story beyond a series of fun adventures, especially now that we’ve seen how well Aria, Stella, and Tama work together. Thankfully, I have another five volumes to get through and one more on preorder, so I should have plenty more to enjoy. I’m excited to see where this series goes and ever hopeful that something happens to elevate it to the next level. I want this series to be amazing.
