I’m a Behemoth, an S-Ranked Monster, but Mistaken for a Cat, I Live as an Elf Girl’s Pet (Volume 2) – Reincarnation is the Cat’s Meow!
What happened?
The first quest that they take together is to kill one minotaur which is a monster found on the fifth level of the dungeon. Aria has never gone that far down before, but Vulcan is a C-ranked adventurer and is willing to help her improve, much to Tama’s relief since he is aware of Aria’s weaknesses but can’t say anything since he’s a cat. In order to get over Aria’s reliance on using her acceleration ability to run straight at her opponent, Vulcan gets her to fight some Ropers alone. To defeat them, she’ll need to stay out of their reach. After defeating one, Aria gains a new skill that allows her to hit the monster with a barrage of attacks even after she has run past them. It’s going to be a handy skill. However, it’s not nearly strong enough to do much damage to a minotaur. Luckily, Vulcan is strong and once Tama knocked the minotaur out, she pounded it with her hammer.
After the quest, Aria was reassessed and moved up to a C-ranked adventurer too. They went for some drinks to celebrate their new party and Aria’s progression. Some drinks turned into more drinks and before they knew it both had passed out in Aria’s bed with Tama sandwiched between them. He didn’t seem to mind, although he couldn’t help but feel that it wasn’t very knightly, but many things in his new life weren’t very knightly. For example, as he walked behind Aria and Vulcan, his view was from an incredibly low angle, putting their panties perpetually in his view. What was he going to do? In their quest to defeat the minotaur, Tama gained some skills from the Ropers and even activated an ability that would let him evolve into the next stage. However, if he stayed like this he could look after Aria forever. That was more than enough for now.

What did you think?
One of the missed opportunities from My Life as Inukai-san’s Dog was the failure to really explore the world from the dog’s point of view. Given his height, it would have been a fairly legitimate way for them to go all in on the low-angle shots that ecchi anime is incredibly fond of. Well, worry not because Beheneko has got things covered and with Aria’s teeny tiny panties on show every couple of pages, they really are going all out on it. Now, that makes the decision to remove all nipples to be very strange. I don’t understand how that decision will please anyone. Fans of ecchi will be annoyed that they’ve been removed and people who don’t like ecchi will be frustrated by all the panty shots. Who are they trying to please?
Anyhow, Vulcan was a great addition to the party and then when they took on a very dangerous quest to defeat a demon along with five knights, we got some more interesting characters. I did laugh when they all introduced themselves and the two girl knights were basically wearing bikini armour while the guys were all armoured and cloaked. Anyhow, the hot spring scene allowed all the girls to get a little out of control, which is to be expected with an ecchi series and the guys tried to sneak a peak only to find Tama waiting for them. It’s all pretty standard stuff, but we are building towards something big with the demon waiting for them. I’m looking forward to finding out whether this series has a darker streak or not.

What was your highlight?
Let’s talk about the Ropers. These things were hilarious. They look like giant cocks, they have one eye and several tentacles that extend from their bodies. When Aria sliced off all of the tentacles, it covered her with a slimy substance… They are quite literally tentacled one-eyed monsters! Again, this has me questioning who this series is aimed at because this is not something that fans of hidden nipples will be lining up to see. It’s vulgar and also hilarious. Of course, on later floors, they encountered a much larger number of Ropers forcing Vulcan to help out on the frontlines. Both ended up covered in the sticky substance while Tama watched from the rear. Tama knew what he was doing.
And then, Tama took a sneaky bite out of a Roper so that he could gain some new skills thanks to his ability to absorb skills. The new ones he acquired were [Summon Tentacle], [Endless Mucus Blast] and [Crossbreed]. I can’t wait to see how those come in handy… It’s a good job Aria can’t see what skills he has or she’ll be making him use them on her, especially since we already know what her intentions are. It also hinted that Vulcan might be beginning to see what Aria sees in Tama… Things could get incredibly messy!
