Booty Royale: Never Go Down Without a Fight! (Volume 11) – I Don’t Want to Lose!
What happened?
As Alevtina Guseva prepared herself to face Yin Xiaomin, she couldn’t help but be concerned about their size difference. If she went too hard, she could kill her. However, as soon as the match began, Xiaomin flew across the ring and into a position to strike. Alevtina saw what was happening and knew how it would end, but she could set herself. What could she do? Then, instincts took over. She caught Xiaomin’s arm and threw her over her shoulder, slamming her into the mat and then landing on top of her. Alevtina stepped back, concerned that she used too much force. After a brief pause, Xiaomin spun to her feet, popping her dislocated shoulder back in. She was ready to continue, but Alevtina begged her to reconsider. She should wait until she’s older and stronger. If she attacked again, Alevtina would be forced to really hurt her. She had plenty of time while Xiaomin gathered her thoughts. Xiaomin surrendered, which was the right decision. Even her coach knew that.
The next fight was between Mao Mao and Sigrun. Chae Yun-Hui had been busy going over the strategy to defeat Sigrun with Mao Mao, although Mao Mao had not really been listening. She was too focused on the fight and what she would do. However, when the fight started, some of Chae Yun-Hui’s advice stuck and it worked against the logical routine of the robot. Well, it did until it adapted to her style and started to counter her attacks. Sigrun caught ahold of Mao Mao and delivered a dragon suplex which could have broken her neck. Mao Mao survived, but it was close. She only managed to get a break when she headbutted one of Sigrun’s attacks. That left it unsure what to do next and that gave Mao Mao the time to slip out of its hold. She took advantage of its hesitation to put it into a hold and broke both of its arms.
Sigrun wasn’t done. It discarded the broken arms and continued to attack with its feet, moving far faster now that it had lowered its weight. Mao Mao launched an attack but it ducked into the punch, headbutting her fist, breaking a bone in her hand. Without the ability to punch, she switched to her elbows and caught Sigrun in the neck. She followed by slamming the robot onto the canvas, ending the fight. She won! Chae Yun-Hui ran into the ring to celebrate with her. Now, the semi-finals could begin.
Misora spent her time before the match with Mika using up her energy so that she would be ready to one-hit KO her. It looked like it worked too as Mika fell face-first to the mat as she approached Misora, unaware that she had even been hit. However, she seemed to understand what was happening in time and bit the inside of her mouth, waking herself up. Now that she knew about Misora’s secret weapon, she wouldn’t fall for it again. Miak launched an offensive, pushing Misora back. She had her on the ropes and ready to give up, but Misora found herself wondering why she was doing this. Why keep fighting? It would all be over if she just gave in. However, she refused to lose herself. She recalled her father’s teaching about finding the moment between rhythms. If she could exploit that, her opponent would be helpless. Misora stepped in, brushing aside Mika’s attacks like they were nothing. As Mika charged for one last attack, Misora caught her face, driving her to the mat. It was over. Misora won!
What did you think?
The further we get into the tournament, the longer the fights take and that is fine with me. This volume had three fights and each of them was spectacular. I was so glad that Xiaomin realised that she had just been spared and gave up. I was also relieved that her coach agreed with her choice. Nobody wants to see a little girl getting beaten by a hundred-kilogram judo master. Her fights have been amazing but this was too much for her. Mao Mao continues to be an amazing fighter to watch. However, she’s reckless and I don’t think she’ll be able to go much further with a broken hand. She would have had the adrenaline to finish off that fight, but I can’t see her beating Alevtina. It’s going to be epic though, so who knows.
I loved the fight between Misora and Mika and was almost disappointed by the beginning. It looked like Mika had been knocked out instantly, which would have been deserved, but I really wanted more from the fight. Luckily, we got it. It’s about time that Misora worked out what she wanted to do. Just the fact that her wish for Jeremy Friedman was much less considered than the others made me think that she would find a way to bow out, allowing someone who was really fighting for something to continue. I also love the way the fighters analyse their fights and use their experience and training to adapt to them. It feels more believable than some Shounen battle series where the answers just appear to them without any due process. There are only two more fights left in this tournament. I hope they can squeeze them both into the next volume, else I’ll be running to the store to grab the next one earlier than I had planned.
