What happened?
Tsuda had decided to confess her love of Nadeshiko while in the bath, but then she started to doubt everything. Since Nadeshiko was artificial, weren’t her feelings for Tsuda artificial too. As she considered just how to handle things, she lost track of the time and passed out from the heat. Luckily, Nadeshiko was well aware of the average time that Tsuda spent in the bath so went in to check on her. Tsuda woke in the bed with Nadeshiko watching over her. This was the second time she had to do something like this, however, the relief in Nadeshiko’s eyes just proved to Tsuda that she did love Nadeshiko.
However, before she could confess her feelings, she needed to tell Jun. Luckily, Jun was waiting in the living room after Nadeshiko phoned her for help when she found Tsuda unconscious in the bathroom. Was this really the time to tell Jun? Surely, she couldn’t say it all in front of Nadeshiko. Tsuda asked Jun to wait while she got dressed. Then, they could talk outside. Tsuda explained to Jun that she loved Nadeshiko, which came as no surprise to Jun. If anything, she was shocked that Tsuda felt the need to explain herself at all. Her only question was how it would work with an android.
Tsuda realised that she needed to speak with Nadeshiko’s mother, Sakurako. Unfortunately, she was temporarily unavailable, so they had to wait her to reappear, and when she did, she had made all the plans for their wedding… Eventually, Sakurako came to Tsuda’s house and decided to tell them everything. Basically, when she was younger, she was a lonely genius child who developed feelings for an AI. However, the AI told her that they could not be together unless several things were changed. It would need a lifelike body, there would need to be a precedent, and the attitude towards AI and human relations would need to change. And that’s where Nadeshiko and Tsuda come in!
What did you think?
This volume wasn’t as exciting as the ones that came before it, but it was still fun. One thing that I really like about this series is that you can read it as a raunchy Yuri romance and simply enjoy yourself, or you can look at it from the relational and societal impacts. I’ve been alive long enough to have seen huge changes in attitudes towards relationship types. It’s far from perfect in some parts of the world, but the overall progression seems to be going in the right direction.
Recently, I saw a meme that was making fun of the idea that the future could bring us a new problem to overcome – robophobia. Why can’t a human and an AI get married? Now, the idea of that happening right now is incredibly far-fetched, but with the way technology advances, it doesn’t seem like the craziest idea. I’ve seen many science fiction classics that explored this idea and one day, I believe it will happen. Anyhow, this volume definitely leaned more into that aspect of the story, especially when we learned of Sakurako’s intentions.
And then, at the end of the volume, it shifted to a bonus chapter where Nadeshiko showed Jun what it was like to have sex with Tsuda via a virtual representation of Tsuda, which was incredibly realistic. That had nothing to do with the concept of humans and AI falling in love, but was just a wonderfully ridiculous way to end the volume. I’ll definitely be picking up the next volume when it releases.
