Parallel Paradise (Volume 22) – Mind Over Mating!
What happened?
At first, it appeared that Yalya died attempting to move towards them, however, her true form was more like a slime. Yota and Rumi woke up in a cavern lying in a pool of warm water. They were both naked and their weapons had vanished. Yalya revealed herself to them and explained the situation. She didn’t need to wait for questions as she can read minds. With Rumi, she could see all of her memories, but with Yota, it was only his immediate thoughts. Still, that was enough to mess with them. Yalya removed Rumi’s reasoning and watched as she pounced on Yota and began to mate with him.

Then, Misa appeared in the cave, also naked. She too had fallen into Yalya’s trap and was now part of her game. If Rumi climaxed, Misa would die. At first, everyone was sure that Rumi would be able to stop, but with her reasoning gone, she couldn’t. Misa tried to stop her with force, so Yalya tied her up and forced her to watch. Yota tried to stop her by climaxing first, but Rumi forced him to continue. Then, just as it looked like Rumi was about to get things under control, she lost it again and then, Misa died, her head removed from her body.

Leigh-Mary was the next person to be caught up in Yalya’s trap, and she had some interesting revelations for Yota. Yalya revealed that Leigh-Mary hates Yota with every fibre of her being, so when she removed her reasoning too, Leigh-Mary attacked. To make things even more interesting, Yalya pulled a sword into this place and watched as they continued to fight, although it was only Leigh-Mary doing the fighting. Eventually, Yota picked up the sword and with a confidence rarely seen before he proclaimed that he couldn’t be beaten when he had a sword. He cut Leigh-Mary down and then turned his attention to Yalya. Two more Guardians approached the cube-shaped blob that was Yalya, which tried to consume them too. Then, they were all thrown out and Yalya returned to the armour.

What did you think?
Leigh-Mary is utterly insane. I loved how she stood up to Momo when she said she couldn’t leave the Music Room, and also how she saw that her purpose for being there was to inspire Yota to believe in herself, even if it cost her life. However, Momo then showed up and claimed that Leigh-Mary, who had returned from Yalya’s realm as a mindless body, could be restored if they basically tortured the bad aura out of her. Of course, that was just Momo’s plan to get Leigh-Mary back for standing up to her. Well, it looks like it’s about to back fire as Leigh-Mary appears to have regained her mind.

There was one very odd moment in this volume, but otherwise it was yet another excellent read. There was a point when the story jumped to Sanya and her clone for two pages where she casually wondered if they had met Yalya yet, but it didn’t really matter to her anyhow. She also revealed that if they died in Yalya’s realm, they would return to the real world as an empty vessel. That is something we needed to know, but this was a horrible way to reveal it. We could have just discovered that when Yota woke up to find Misa and Leigh-Mary in a bad way.

Part of me wonders if Yota is still trapped inside Yalya and this is all more elaborate dreams. It seemed odd that Yalya just spat everyone out and went back to guarding the Empress’ room. Maybe, one of the other two Guardians has something in her memories that made Yalya give up, or like I said, they are still in there. Well, I was delighted to get back into this series if only for a couple of weeks. The wait for the next volume resumes with it being released in September. After that, volume twenty four comes out in December, and there is probably many more after that. Good times!
