What happened?

After defeating the Boss of the East Forest, Anastasia, Skelly, and Alfred unlocked a new area. That included the town of Belstead. Anastasia wandered the markets looking for new ingredients to cook with, especially as the tournament was coming up soon and she planned on having a stall to capitalise on the event. For that, she decided that she needed to make hot dogs and that required a lot more preparation than she had originally anticipated. The first thing she wanted to do was to practice hunting some of the animals on her own. The first one went surprisingly well and she gained a bunch of skills and stat points, so she carried on, and on, and on. Three days later, Anastasia had filled her storage with drops from animals. She’d also learned a new skill that made her even stronger – Royal Defense.

The day before the tournament, Anastasia’s sister, Rina contacted her and asked her to help her defeat the boss of the South since it was the only one of the four bosses who hadn’t been defeated and Rina wanted to prepare for the tournament. Anastasia agreed and met with Rina’s party. They headed south and soon found the clearing where the boss fight should take place. However, there was just a goblin there. Then, the Coatl pounced, swallowing the goblin whole.

Anastasia and Rina’s party attacked. Since the Coatl is a giant winged serpent, it spends a lot of its time in the air, making it hard for several of Rina’s party members to attack. Then, Anastasia discovered its weak spots and told the party where to target. They took out one of its wings and then pounced on it once it was down. They defeated it and unlocked the next region – Inbanmut which was a coastal town. The next day, everyone prepared for the tournament, however, when they teleported to the location, they found a barren field and two winged monsters who had been expecting them!

What did you think?

I love the way Anastasia gets distracted and ends up grinding all of her stats to the point that no one is going to be able to touch her. She went to see if she could hunt a cow on her own and then ended up hunting for three days, which ended with her taking on an ogre solo. There are a lot of similarities between this series and BOFURI and thankfully, it’s all the fun stuff. As much as I enjoy Anastasia’s group battles, it’s her solo missions that I like the most. It’s the way she’s constantly pushing her skills to their limits and then when they evolve into something else, she’s not deterred that she has to start again from zero with that skill. She just gets on with it.

It’s also hilarious that Anastasia is now responsible for the first kills of two of the four bosses. I wonder if anyone else can make that sort of claim. I also think that by killing the fourth boss before the tournament, they have probably activated another World Event or similar which is why I think they have all been teleported to another location and not the tournament. The next volume should be a lot of fun, especially if we get to see some of the characters from the first World Event who will no doubt be stronger, but probably not as strong as Anastasia. I’m still really enjoying this series and am already looking forward to the day that it gets the anime treatment… whenever that will be…
