Anastasia has been playing Free Life Fantasy Online for about two weeks now and still hasn’t met another player. Since she played the Race game, she’s been grinding in the catacomb, but now she’s ready to walk in the sun!

What happened?

Since Anastasia chose to be a zombie in the game, the sun is harmful to her, and when she evolved into the Immortal Princess, her levels were reset to one. All that grinding had to be redone, however, this time she had better equipment and skills, meaning the zombies in the catacombs didn’t stand a chance. Still accompanied by the game AI long after it should have disappeared, Anastasia sets her sights on leaving the catacombs. To do that, she will need to level up her healing abilities. Since healing potions are deadly to the undead, they have an automatic healing ability. To build it up, Anastasia slowly exposed her skin to the sun and then returned to the shadows. The AI couldn’t watch as she repeatedly cooked her flesh, but there was nothing else it could do.

After a while, Anastasia got it to the point where she healed faster than the sun’s damage could take effect. She still felt a tingle from the sun’s rays, but there was no damage now. Finally, they left the catacombs and headed to the starter city – Beginning Town. Once inside, she interacted with several NPCs, gaining new skills and access to shops and guilds. Since she was at the guild, she registered as an adventurer and then took on some quests to kill monsters outside the city. Some of the early skills she worked on allowed her to butcher the monsters and then sell the meat and skin to traders. That led her to work on another skill – cooking. Before long, she had set up a stall and was now selling her cooking, all while levelling up. She also finally met her sister, Akina and a couple of her friends who were also undead. They were impressed to get a buff from joining a party with Anastasia since she was their Princess!

What did you think?

It’s been a while! I read the first volume in January 2023 and really enjoyed it. It felt like an ecchi version of BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense and those easy-going chilled vibes have continued. However, a lot of the ecchi side of things seems to have fallen away. Sure, she’s been referred to as the big-boobed princess, but that’s hardly anything to get excited about. The main source of humour comes from the AI who is still hanging around and continues to be dumber than a bag of rocks. It is funny watching it belittling NPCs with comments that could easily be levied at it.

As fun as this volume was, it wasn’t as good as the first volume. The ecchi side of things was missing and without the grinding in the catacombs, we were left with wandering Beginning Town and cooking. Anastasia did fight some monsters, but it was less of a fight and more of a one-hit massacre. I’m looking forward to the point where we get past the beginner stage of the game and get into some exciting quests. Still, if you are looking for something fun and easygoing, then this is looking like it’ll be a nice series to read alongside BOFURI. I’ve got another five volumes at present so I’ll be pushing on and seeing where this series goes.
