Parallel Paradise (Volume 5) – I Was… Dreaming!
What happened?
Hanahana was able to gather her thoughts and then help Youta dress Tia and carry her back to her bedroom since she had been thoroughly exhausted from their mating. Surprisingly, Hanahana told Youta that she thought she had felt something long before she knew he was a male. At first, she believed it to be respect for him teaching her about numbers and letters, but now she knew that it was something else. Regardless, she said goodnight to Youta and returned to her room. In the morning, Tia woke with a start. Everything she did last night came flooding back into her consciousness. She had to do something!
Tia tracked down Youta and attacked. If he were dead, then her memories would be dead too. There would be no one who could confirm what happened. However, Hanahana got in between them and revealed that she saw it, forcing Tia to accept what had happened. At breakfast, Youta revealed to Pinako that he was a male and that he had mated with Tia. It was hard to lie about it since she too had the mark around her neck. Pinako didn’t seem that surprised. In fact, she asked if he would mate with her after breakfast. Youta agreed although Rumi didn’t seem too impressed despite saying the opposite.
Pinako took him to a secluded cabin and got into position. However, it wasn’t doing it for Youta. And since she had been a bit of a bitch to him, he had no interest in mating with her. She even laughed when he asked if she wanted him to make her aroused… as if he could! Youta touched her cheek and her fountain of desire erupted. She instantly turned, begging him to mate with her. He did, but then he stopped before she could come. He did it again, determined to pay her back for her behaviour. However, she threw him to the bed and pulled a knife on him. If he stopped again, she was going to kill him.
Later on, Youta bumped into Hanahana again, practising her numbers. She was trying to calculate the time of low tide so that they could search for the missing fragment of the crystal to save Noah’s mother. However, Hanahana couldn’t handle being in the same room with Youta so she ran. He followed her to return the counting device that she had left behind. He was about to leave when she offered him some tea… and then one thing led to another… Luckily, they were done before the low tide, however, Hanahana didn’t develop the mark on her neck. Still, they found the shrine and Noah’s mother who revealed that she was the local god and Reel was a fake. Everything Genius had told Youta was true. Then, the tide came in, trapping her for another twenty years. That was when Kai attacked.
She was determined to kill everyone who heard or saw Noah’s mother. It was revealed that Kai slept with a male three thousand years ago and was given her powers by the Jealous God. Since then she has maintained her life by feasting on the gallbladders of humans. Unfortunately, Pinako, Hanahana, and Tia’s weapons were useless against Kai, but since Rumi was not from Reel, her weapon could hurt her. Then, the unimaginable happened. Kai bit a chunk out of Youta’s torso and tossed his body away. The girls screamed, seeing him lying dead on the sand.
Youta woke up in a hospital bed. He felt strange, but then he noticed Nishina. She seemed pleased to see that he was awake and explained that he’d been asleep for a month. After the doctor briefed him on his condition, including the arm and leg that he lost because of the fall, Nishina made him promise that he wouldn’t jump out a window again. He tried to tell her that he was thrown, but no one saw anyone with him. Then, he noticed the same figure in the parking lot outside the hospital. He climbed onto the window. Maybe, he could get back. But, what if it was a dream and he was hallucinating? Nishina jumped up with him and threatened to go with him. She told him that she loved him, convincing him to come back inside. Then, he felt something grab him from behind and pull him and Nishina out the window.
He woke one more, back on the beach as the others fought against Kai, the Cetus. They were slowly reduced to begging for their lives, which gave him the chance to grab Rumi’s sword and start hacking away. If he could keep it in place until sunrise, then it would be killed by the sun.
What did you think?
Firstly, let me apologise for the lengthy summary, however, this book really needed it. I try to keep it short and to the point, only including what needs to be discussed. Well, this all needed to be brought up because I feel like everything was important in this volume. It was incredible. Firstly, we saw that Pinako showed us just how messed up this world could be for Youta. Admittedly, he asked for it, but girls pulling knives on him just to make him mate with them doesn’t seem that crazy when they learn that it could give them longer lives. We have already seen Momo tie him up, so this takes things a little further. Could it get worse for Youta?
Then, Hanahana didn’t develop the mark on her neck like Lilia. There has to be a reason behind this and this volume tried to imply that it was because Hanahana and Lilia both masturbate. I’m not buying that for a second. Pinako was Kai’s plaything and she still gained the mark. The interesting thing is that it would appear that one of each group of guardians didn’t gain the mark. I doubt that’s a coincidence either. There has to be something different about them. What does it mean for their lives? We saw that Hanahana was affected by Kai’s powers and was still unable to see Noah. Does that mean she’ll die when she reaches twenty? More questions and still not enough answers.
Then, we learned that Kai mated with a male three thousand years ago and gained some powers from the Jealous God that allowed her to transform into Reel, the fake local god, and the Cetus, the monster feasting on gallbladders. We’re also seeing more and more ideas from mythology creeping in with the Cetus and previously, the unicorn. Even the golem was destroyed by breaking the characters on its forehead. There is an undeniable link between this world and our own. And that brings me to the moment that Youta woke up in the hospital bed.
The series is called Parallel Paradise so it makes sense that this world is running in parallel to our own, which would explain the time differences being the same. Seeing Youta in that state was quite shocking, however, the fact that no one saw the strange figure who threw him out the window is similar to how no one could see Noah. Someone clearly wants Youta in that world. This series has been amazing so far, but this volume just bumped it up to another level of intrigue.
