Parallel Paradise (Volume 13) – Beautiful Elves in One Life, Death in the Other!
What happened?
They hadn’t been travelling long before it became apparent that Rumi had some needs that she wanted Yota to take care of. He felt odd doing it in front of Nishina, but once the fountain of desire starts flowing, there’s only one way to resolve things. While Yota and Rumi mated, he watched Nishina who seemed to be vacantly watching. There wasn’t any hint of emotion. No disgust. No arousal. Nothing. Meanwhile, he was starting to feel awkward, but then she didn’t have any of her memories so it wasn’t that odd… was it?
After mating, they returned to the road and eventually reached a point where they could set up their tent for the night. Of course, as soon as they lay down in their beds, Rumi’s fountain started to overflow once more. She demanded that Yota allow her to mate again and since Nishina was asleep, what did it matter? He tried to resist, but it was no use. How could he turn her down, and if he didn’t she wouldn’t be able to function until they did. At least, Nishina was asleep. Well, that’s what they thought!

The next day they reached a forest on the climb to reach Arlslayer. It was so steep that the bicorn collapsed from exhaustion, however, it would be fine after a rest. So, they decided it was best to set up camp, even if Rumi suggested that it wasn’t a safe place to do so. Yota decided to scout the area and make sure there weren’t any monsters nearby. He discovered something quite the opposite. He stumbled upon a pool where elves were bathing. They were beautiful with long golden hair and pointy ears. Not at all like the elf he met outside Meese Town. He tried to leave without causing a disturbance, but one of them spotted him and as soon as they worked out he was a male, they all wanted to have a little fun with him.
Yota was restrained with some sort of magic, similar to the type that Galia used as the elves took turns to mate with him and enjoy themselves. Eventually, Rumi came looking for him and was surprised to find him in this state. Nishina tried to stop Rumi from rushing in, but she refused and quickly got caught by the elves too. They made her watch as they continued to mate with Yota. Then, they saw Nishina and ran for their lives. Yota learned that these were high elves who are basically immortal which would mean they would remember the Jealous God from three thousand years ago. Anyhow, it took them far longer than they had hoped, but they eventually reached Arlslayer.

After getting a change of clothes from one of the discount shops run by the other type of elf, they sneaked into the city, however, they took them into the labyrinth which is the home to the minotaur. It attacked, forcing them to run. They managed to flee into the city where the minotaur was sent back to the maze by one of the guardians, Piano. Yota, Rumi, and Nishina decided to find a quiet place to stay while they searched for the witch. Luckily, it didn’t take that long and they even managed to have a reasonable conversation with her.
She revealed that she could bring back the Jealous God’s memories, but it would cost them one human brain. Not just that, but she wanted to eat it while the person was still alive, by cracking open the skull like a boiled egg. Of course, Yota knew that this was the case and was ready for it. He offered his own brain after he had confirmed if the Nishina was really the Jealous God. He knew that he wouldn’t be able to return to his own world, but that didn’t matter. If she was the Jealous God, he would kill he freeing this world and if she wasn’t then he would die knowing that there was nothing else he could have done. However, the witch wanted payment upfront and gave them some time to decide.

While they tried to work out what to do, Rumi decided that she needed to mate once more. However, that then got them noticed by one of the guardians of Arlslayer, Mei. She threatened to blow a whistle, alerting everyone of their presence since the Empress was keen to kill Yota. He tried to reason with her, but whenever he tried to touch her, she hit him away with her tonfa as she seemed awfully concerned about what the Empress would do to her if she mated with Yota. That was their chance!
Realising Mei was more concerned with surviving than protecting everyone, Yota convinced her to mate with him. They went back to their secluded hiding place where Nishina was waiting for them. Yota took Mei into another room and began to mate with her. However, when they were done, Nei did not develop the mark on her neck. Yota was concerned that she wouldn’t believe him without it, but that concern changed when Nishina walked in and told him that he could die along with her. Had the Jealous God regained some of her memories or was this something else fueled by Rumi’s jealousy?

What did you think?
This was probably the first volume that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy. There were parts that were all right, but a lot of it was kind of boring. On top of that, we are starting to see Yota changing. He’s always been rude and a bit of a jerk, but in this volume, he really pulled out the stops with how he treated Rumi, Nishina, and Mei. I wonder if he is being impacted by the death of his real body back in his home world. He knows that he won’t be able to come back if he dies again, but I doubt he’s worked out that it’s because his body is dead.
The stuff with the brain-eating witch reminded me of Hannibal Lector which took away some of the shock of what she was asking for, even though it is pretty horrifying. It’s going to be interesting if he does go through with finding her a brain to eat because that could easily be seen as a very dark moment for Yota who definitely seems to be on the downward spiral in terms of his mental health. The most interesting thing in this volume was the way that Nishina seemed to feed on Rumi’s jealousy. I’m starting to think that she’s not called the Jealous God because she is jealous, but because of how she gains her power from other’s jealousy.
Anyhow, the next volume should be more interesting as I hope we’ll get a little more information about whether the death of his real body impacts him at all here. I also hope that Rumi develops a bit of resistance to him as she seems to be losing control most often. Other than that, I have no idea where it will go now.
