The Jealous God had awoken and was already pulling the god-killing sword from his chest. Nishina told Yota that he had to fight. He had to take the sword from Kanejo and kill him or this world would be doomed!

What happened?

Yota wasn’t ready. He didn’t know what to do despite Nishina’s clear instructions. Even if he understood, there was no way he could defeat Kanejo. Then, almost as suddenly as he had awoken, he returned to his slumber. Nishina understood. Someone must have attempted to kill the Empress but failed to complete the process so the seal was back in place. This gave them a sudden realisation of what they faced. Even if they killed the Empress, how would they get back to defeat Kanejo before he wreaked havoc on the world? Nishina had an answer for that too. There is a laboratory on the way to the Capitol that has a device that can keep a human head alive. When Yota asked why a device like that would even exist, she reminded him of a witch who eats brains and likes to have a fresh supply… Sandra! However, Nishina did not tell them the full extent of the situation.

Leigh-Mary, Rumi, and Yota set off for the Capitol, stopping at the laboratory. Once inside, they saw a collection of heads all calling out for help or screaming to be killed. Then, they were attacked by a girl claiming to be the witch Sandra. She pulled her panties off and tied Yota up with a spider’s thread that shot out of her bum. Rumi and Leigh-Mary realised what she was. This was not Sandra. It was a golem made in Sandra’s likeness who had been left to guard the heads. It had been five hundred years since Sandra last visited, but the golem was still diligently watching over things. Yota was furious that Sandra would leave all these girls in this state for five hundred years and decided to pay Sandra a visit along with the golem. He killed all of the heads and took one of the devices with him. Sandra revealed that she didn’t think any of them would still be alive and that she used it as a way to control her cravings, knowing that every time she wanted to eat, she would regain her senses before making it there. She thanked the golem and asked it to watch over her as she neared the end of her life. Yota and the others continued on to the Capitol.

What did you think?

Well, that was quite the volume to end things for a while as that was the last one currently available. The next one comes out in March and the following one in June, so I’ll be sure to jump on those as soon as possible. Anyhow, there weren’t many answers in this one, but the action was good and there were plenty of hints about what they might find in the Capitol. I remember wondering where the babies came from in the earlier volumes and it sounds like we may be getting closer to that revelation. We also discovered that Leigh-Mary’s dragon would only let virgins ride it, so she had to walk with the rest of them. There was a moment when Yota and Leigh-Mary accidentally touched hands and that left her in need of his help once more. It would appear that Yota is still a bit of a jerk when it comes to this sort of thing, although he has made progress.

The room full of heads was a brilliantly twisted idea and it fit within the realms of the story both in terms of Sandra’s need to eat brains and the problem they faced of killing the Empress without giving Kanejo the chance to go on a rampage. I wonder how he ended up in that situation anyhow. Apparently, he is recovering from some injuries and then there’s the question of who drove the sword into his chest and why that didn’t kill him. Presumably, he will have a specific weakness similar to all of the witches. We also saw what the Empress can do to anyone she has touched, and I’d imagine that the closer they get to her, the more people she will have that she can turn into any sort of monster. We’ve also heard that there is one knight who can pull your darkest thoughts from your mind and make you confront them. I’m guessing Yota is going to see Kanejo kill his mother and do something horrible to Nishina. I can’t believe that I’ve finally got to the point where I’m caught up with the physical books. This has been a wild ride so far and I’m sure it’s going to continue.

What was your highlight?

Yota, Rumi, and Leigh-Mary arrived at the town beneath the Empress’ castle and decided to get a room for the night. The two girls working there were busy talking about the male and what they would do if they found him. Then, as they prepared to go to their room, another Guardian walked in. Rumi instantly recognised her and realised that they were in trouble. It was Imari, a Hunter Guardian. Leigh-Mary also realised the danger of the situation and recommended that Yota and Rumi leave through the window and hide. However, before they could the two girls from the reception came in with their fountains of desire overflowing. They asked Yota if he was the male since this happened as soon as they spoke to him.

He confirmed and then took care of things as you might expect. After they were done, Leigh-Mary and Rumi put the two unconscious girls in another room and prepared to escape. However, Imari was already waiting for them and kicked Yota back through the window. Imari questioned Leigh-Mary about her intentions and was furious that she was even doubting the Empress. She fired off a flare to alert the other Guardians before Yota was able to touch her face. After that, she wanted nothing else but to mate with him. However, there were three more Guardians already on their way and they arrived before Yota could finish things. Imari answered the door and told them she accidentally set off the flare and then told them to leave. Unfortunately, they didn’t and barged into the room. This going to be interesting with Imari in a frenzied state. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
