Parallel Paradise (Volume 9) – Unstoppable, Unearthly Appetites!
What happened?
Yota tries to wake Nishina by yelling at her, however, the Guardians reveal that it won’t work. In fact, if he tries to touch her, he will die. The only way to open it is with the incantation that they have and the amulet that Galia has. Yota realises that the incantation must be the password whereas Galia’s amulet is some sort of key card. It’s getting stranger and stranger for Yota. Anyhow, he knows exactly what he needs to do – kill Galia and rescue Nishina. How he’s going to do it is entirely a different question.
Meanwhile, Galia used the gate to go to Meese Town and she’s already selected her first meal. Unfortunately, she chose Misaki, one of the guardians who quickly worked out that Galia wasn’t a regular human. Galia was impressed that she worked it out, but still planned on killing her and everyone else there. Misaki knew her job and ran to warn everyone, throwing Galia’s plan into chaos. As the girls hid, Misaki was joined by the two new guardians, fresh from the citadel. It was going to be a tough first day!
The discovery of Nishina was playing on Yota’s mind, however, Kazuchi has something else she needs Yota to help her with. Amane, the eldest of the guardians is nearing her last moon and they don’t want to lose her. However, Amane is not on board with the plan. Regardless, Kazuchi and Vanille tie her up and leave her in Yota’s room. He refuses to be a part of it and unties her. However, when he tries to reassure her, she hits him and runs. Kazuchi and Vanille bring her back in a far more compromising position. Yota is still not all right with this.
Back in Meese Town, Galia tells the Guardians that she is prepared to leave if they give her one girl a day to eat. Otherwise, she’ll just have to kill everyone. One of the new Guardians, Nagomi steps forward, determined to protect everyone. However, as Galia approaches, she attacks with a speed that Galia hadn’t predicted, even timing her attacks to the moment that Galia drops her shield to attack. She does admirable, but that just forces Galia to transform into a giant sandworm. Nagomi attacks once more, but this time she is quickly devoured. Galia leaves everyone is a state of shock!
Yota promised Kazuchi that he would get through to Amane and not in a way that she would resent them all. He tried to speak to her about her past and why she hadn’t spoken a word in years, not since the guardians she was with were killed by the Karu. However, she refused to engage him, so he challenged her to a sword fight, although he would fight barehanded. It was all a ploy to touch her skin, which he did as she grazed his cheek with her blade. However, Amane instantly turned her blade to her own throat and was only stopped by Yota’s apologies.
Surprisingly, it was enough to get her to open up. The reason that she had been so hard on herself was that as her companions were being attacked by the Karu, she got aroused. Yota explained that it was a natural condition, a part of the survival instinct and the need to propagate. It made enough sense to her that she asked him to mate with her. He did. Soon after, she passed out from exhaustion. However, Yota was woken in the night to find her mating with him, even as he slept. Amane developed the mark on her neck. Yota also learned about her eye which allows her to see the weakness of any opponent at the cost of her life…
The Guardians of Meese Town had tracked down Genius and begged him to help them with Galia, however, he told them that there was nothing he could do. No one could stop her, but then he told them that rumour was spreading that Yota defeated a witch in Reel Town and that he was now in Sandrio. However, that was a seven-day ride away which would mean they would lose another fourteen girls before he even got back. Genius told them about a doorway that linked all the towns, but it hadn’t been active in years.
With Genius’ help, they found the portal and sent Lilia to get help. She managed to gather everyone up and take them to the portal. However, when Yota stepped through, it seemed to lose its power. Rumi jumped through after him, but there was only enough for one more person. Lilia stepped forward, but Amane ran through before she could move. The portal closed, trapping Lilia in Sandrio while Yota and the others stood up to Galia. However, without a plan, Kia stepped forward as the sacrifice. Galia saw that she was a virgin and decided to make things more interesting. If Yota mated with her there and then, she would leave without eating anyone. Kia refused!
What did you think?
Wow! Things just got a lot more intense. Galia running around Meese Town was possibly one of the highlights of the series so far. The way Nagomi managed to injure her was impressive, but it was all for nothing as Galia ate her in her sandworm form. The way she left, telling them that she would be back every day for another girl was excellent. It creates a dire situation that no one can ignore. It’s going to be interesting to see if there is any information in the library that can help Yota work out Galia’s weaknesses. Presumably, she does have one…
It was also nice to see that Yota hadn’t descended into a total pervert. I’m glad he untied Amane and allowed her to walk out of his room without forcing himself on her. Even when he tried to be a little underhanded, he instantly apologised when he realised that it was too far for her. Of course, I have a soft spot for Amane as she is undoubtedly a strong woman with a sword. Also, it’s hard not to be impressed by her actions. She does what she wants and isn’t afraid to sacrifice herself for the good of everyone. I hope it doesn’t come to her using her eye to defeat Galia, but it’s definitely a possibility at this stage.
One of the interesting moments was that Yota appears to have worked out that the Lilia from this time is not the one who threw him into this world. Lilia getting stuck in Sandrio will no doubt facilitate that given all the advanced technology beneath the desert. I wonder if the Nishina they saw has been trapped in that device for three thousand years and that we may yet encounter another Nishina, who travelled through time with Yota. I love that the story is getting more and more complicated and that it still maintains the level of eroticism. It’s hard to find a story that combines both elements as well as Parallel Paradise.
