Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs (Volume 8) – Subjugation Ceremony Complete

Having failed to save Kogarashi, Yuuna, Sagiri, Yaya, and Hibari are forced to watch the subjugation ceremony. Once it’s complete, Kogarashi is turned back to a human and forced to kiss Hiougi, but that’s too much for Yuuna to bear!
Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs (Volume 8) – Subjugation Ceremony Complete
What happened?
Hiougi listened in on the inner thoughts of the guests at her wedding to Kogarashi… I mean the subjugation ceremony of Kogarashi. It was completed when Hiougi placed the wooden doll of Kogarashi on a chair and sat on him. Seems fairly appropriate really. That was when Kogarashi was changed back and instantly began to tell Hiougi off. However, when she told him to kiss her, he had to obey. However, Yuuna couldn’t take it. A kiss was for someone you loved. Her poltergeist powers kicked in, breaking free of the bonds that Hiougi had placed on them. She even broke the subjugation spell which is supposed to be unbreakable, even by the caster.
Hiougi spoke to Yuuna with her mind, complaining about how she had undone all of her work. She told the story of how she loved Kogarashi and was just looking for the perfect moment to introduce herself. Then, when she saw all the girls of Yuragi-sou in the bath with him, she got jealous. Unfortunately, her telepathic powers had been altered by Yuuna meaning that everyone heard her inner thoughts. Everyone was appalled to have been used in such a way. She pretty much destroyed the reputation of the family. However, Kogarashi told her not to do anything like that again and then left.
Once back at Yuragi-sou, Kogarashi got to have a second birthday party where he received lots of gifts from everyone and they got to enjoy a shared bath again. This time, Kogarsahi was allowed to wear swimwear. However, the next day Karura Hirougi appeared. This time, she was only stopping by to give Kogarashi his birthday present and ask that they start again as friends. He liked that.

What did you think?
Just brilliant. We all knew that the Subjugation Ceremony wouldn’t work, however, it was a real surprise that Hiougi completed it and it was then broken by Yuuna. This casts even more mystery on who Yuuna is and who she was before she died. It was also painfully obvious that Hiougi would become another semi-regular member of the cast. I for one am glad because that means we’ll get to see more of Matora Mikogami, Hiougi’s powerful best friend. All in all, this was a great outcome to one of the more interesting parts of the series so far. That was about a third of the book which gave us lots of time for some more bizarrely wonderful shenanigans.
Firstly, we had Oboro asking Chisaki for some help with dating. It was even better that they had Koyuzu with them because she could turn herself into Kogarashi to make the advice more relatable. That just made Chisaki even more uncomfortable, especially when Koyuzu got a little too into it… However, my favourite segment in the entire book was when we followed Rui Harashima, Nonko’s editor who had just discovered that she was being transferred and wouldn’t be Nonko’s editor anymore. She went to see her to give her the bad news. They had a bath together, got drunk, and then woke up in one another’s arms. I fully endorse that ship!
I’m now one-third of the way through this series and I have yet to find myself getting bored. Not even for a moment. There’s a lot to like.
