Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs (Volume 20) – Let’s Get Metaphysical!
What happened?
After Kogarashi used his spirit energy to win a race, there was some discussion about whether it was fair for him to do so against other humans. He wouldn’t have done it if the entire school wasn’t berating him for not giving it his all. Once back at Yuragi-sou the group started to talk about the equivalent sports festivals at the schools and villages where they grew up. Everyone wanted to compete which was ideal because Matora and Asaka came together to create an Irregular Barrier that would allow them to compete with all of their powers available to them. However, just as they were discussing it, Kogarashi fell from the sky, as he does, and landed on Asaka. She panicked and activated the barrier.
Within seconds, everyone had been transported to a sports arena and clothed appropriately. They would split into two teams and compete in a number of events to see who won. And, since it’s an Irregular Barrier, the only way out is to complete the games. However, there was one thing out of place. Where was Kogarashi? He was everywhere. Everything in the arena was Kogarashi. He was the rope in the tug-of-war contest, he was the stadium lights, looking down on them, and he was their clothes. Kogarashi tried to clear his mind, but it wasn’t going to be easy, especially with Koyuzu and Miria on opposing teams.
Koyuzu used her talisman powers to change the opponents’ clothes, making them a lot skimpier. Miria was going to change it back, but that wouldn’t get them anywhere. They needed to go harder. It was a constant battle of powers, trying to work out how to outdo the other team. One team had Oboro and her godspeed, and the other team had Hiougi and her various powers. There needed to be an opening that someone could exploit. Ironically, it came down to Koyuzu and Miria controlling the clothes they had created with their talismans. All of which was still Kogarashi! Let the games begin!
What did you think?
After the last episode, I had to quickly pen Kishi Asaka’s name into my shortlist for top Waifus from Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs… although it’s not that short a list. Anyhow, Seeing her stroll into the hot spring with Matora made my day. These two tanned, athletic, beauties teaming up is a development that I can wholeheartedly get behind. Now, if they can just get Nonko to join them! Anyhow, the sports festival was brilliant and Kogarashi being all of the equipment was hilarious. I loved how much they all thought about the opponents’ powers and how best to counter one another. It got quite strategic.
There were also several shorter stories. One involved Hibari and her clumsiness around Kogarashi. Another had Hiougi catch a cold and when she couldn’t find her Kogarashi body pillow, her assistant accidentally turned Kogarashi into her body pillow. Then, Yuuna was transformed into a buff moustachioed man, and soon after all the girls of Yuragi-sou joined her. Sagiri tried to go on a date with Kogarashi which turned into a mission which turned into dating training… Then, Kogarsahi and Hyoudou were turned into dogs. One was abducted by an eagle and the other became the Yuragi-sou pet for a while. And finally, Chisaki and Kogarashi got caught up in one of the Seven Wonders of Yukemuri High School and were forced to strip to share body heat. All in, it was laid back and tons of fun!
