My [Repair] Skill Became a Versatile Cheat, So I Think I’ll Open a Weapon Shop (Volume 3) – We Need Help…
What happened?
Falcon accused Luke of hiding his true skills from him and that everything after they abandoned him, leaving him for dead, was somehow his fault. Luke refused to accept any blame for what happened and then used [Decompose] to make the floor beneath them crumble away, revealing a deep, dark cavern. He pulled himself up as Falcon fell below. That was too close for comfort. Didn’t he just give all this up for a nice quiet life in his shop? Well, that wasn’t going to happen anytime soon either. His shop had become incredibly popular and the influx of adventurers to the area just made things tougher. Luckily, Luke was just about to get his first full-time employee. Well, kind of…
Since Luke was now a target of the dark lord, Garnet had been assigned to watch over him. The Order of the Silver Wing was going off on another mission so they didn’t want to leave him unguarded. Luke was fine with that, however, he wasn’t so sure about letting Garnet live in his house with him, especially since he was a she. However, Luke couldn’t say anything to her commanding officer so he relented and allowed her to move in. The next day, Sylvia and Sakura came by to help, but it still wasn’t enough. They needed more staff, so Luke went to the guild to post a job listing. He also treated the girls (and Garnet) to a nice beef dinner.
Garnet thanked Luke’s generosity by taking him to the hot springs for a bath. Luke was a little cautious about the arrangements, but Garnet had booked two smaller private baths for them. They spoke over the divide, allowing Garnet to get more information about the adventurers they met at the guild. She told him to avoid taking on any adventuring roles, which he was fine with, but he wasn’t going to refuse repair jobs. Surprisingly, two adventurers showed up the next day to fill the job request and to Luke’s surprise one of them was from the East. Well, things got tense when Sakura showed up to help and it turned out that not only did she know them, but they really didn’t get along. Luke did his best to keep them apart, but it’s not a big shop. Somehow, they all survived.
On Luke’s first free day in ages, he spent his time mining Mithril with Garnet. On their way to the mine, they saw Noir with the local soldiers. She was their guide for the dungeon since she was the only person to have escaped from it. She tried to apologise to Luke for what happened, but he didn’t care. In fact, he had moved on and wasn’t holding anything against her. A couple of days later, Luke was closing the shop when Noir showed up. She revealed that she was willing to work for him, even for free. However, he gave her an actual job rather than it be known he was not compensating his employees. The next problem was finding out how best to use her skills.

What did you think?
Things are still progressing slowly but in a good way. I like this development where Garnet has moved into Luke’s home and is still pretending to be a boy. Of course, Syliva is onto her… Also, surprisingly, I’ve become quite fond of Garnet and her relationship with Luke. She’s as far from my type as I could imagine, but her character is fascinating and they seem to have great chemistry. I was sure that Sakura would be the number one girl with Sylvia in second and yet, here we are! I’m as surprised as anyone. Anyhow, now that Luke has inadvertently built up a harem (they might not know it yet, but they are) we get to see more awkward and funny moments to go along with the dark and sinister stuff from the dungeon. It’s developing a nice balance.
So, yeah. It was more of the same, but I also appreciated it a lot more than the second volume. I think focusing more on the core characters was a big difference, and while we needed to meet the king and develop things further with more adventurers, spending time with the main cast is so much more important. It’s going to be interesting to see how Noir adjusts to the situation and whether Luke begins to warm to her. At the moment, he’s apathetic, but I’m sure that’ll change. Of course, the real thing to think about is what happened to Julia and Blanc, Noir’s sister. They will have no doubt met a similar fate to Falcon, who I also doubt that we’ve seen the last of. I’m really enjoying this series and am glad that I picked it up again.
