My [Repair] Skill Became a Versatile Cheat, So I Think I’ll Open a Weapon Shop (Volume 1) – Those Who Can’t Do, Fix

Luke’s been an adventurer for fifteen years and hasn’t progressed beyond an E-rank. It doesn’t help that his only skill is [Repair]. After being abandoned by his party, Luke finally decides to call it a day.
My [Repair] Skill Became a Versatile Cheat, So I Think I’ll Open a Weapon Shop (Volume 1) – Those Who Can’t Do, Fix
What happened?
Luke was recruited to enter an A-ranked dungeon but was unceremoniously dumped when an accident cost the party much of its supplies. Determined not to die there, Luke tried to escape. Two weeks later, surviving only on the magic-embued water of the dungeon, he had a strange encounter. His [Repair] skill evolved into three separate skills. Now, he could [Analyze], [Decompose], and [Recompose]. They were all part of [Repair] but happened subconsciously. Now, he had complete control of each aspect.
He managed to escape from the dungeon by using [Decompose] to tunnel through the dungeon walls. Once outside, he was desperate to find some food, however, there were more pressing issues. He found two girls being attacked by a dragon, and the one that looked like a warrior had only a broken sword to defend herself. Luke tossed her a sword that he had repaired using the dungeon walls. With this new weapon, she killed the dragon with one strike. That was unexpected.
The girl was badly wounded and passed out shortly after. Luke hurried to help her, but he didn’t have any healing spells. But was repairing a person that much different to repairing a sword? Luke was about to find out. He put everything he could into it and passed out. He woke half a day later in a bed in an inn. Sylvia greeted him with a smile and thanked him for saving them. She told him that Sakura had made a complete recovery. Sakura asked Luke to fix her sword, but when she tried to pay him, he refused and instead offered to take her to the guild to become an adventurer. Meanwhile, he was going to open a weapon shop, especially as word of his one-hit dragon-killing sword made the rounds.

What did you think?
It’s one of those ridiculously long-titled series, but don’t hold that against it. I really enjoyed [Repair] Skill and can’t wait for the next one. One thing I enjoyed about this story was that Luke was not some wet-behind-the-ear rookie. He has fifteen years of experience. He’s calm, considered and quite astute. I liked that he realised he needed to capitalize on the rumour about his sword. He saw his chance to do something with his life and jumped at it. Sure, he was already heading that way after the last party abandoned him to die in the dungeon, but the way it happened for him made sense.
At first, I was a little concerned that Luke’s sudden skill evolution appeared out of nowhere, but then I remembered that he had been drinking the magic-embued water from the dungeon for two weeks. No doubt, that was the catalyst combined with his desire to survive. I also loved the ending of this volume where Luke saved Garnet and discovered he was a girl. Then, we learnt that something was releasing dangerous monsters from the A-ranked dungeon and that something terrible happened to Luke’s old party. I am intrigued and excited by the prospects.
