Youta met with Reel, the local god who told him that the Jealous God died five hundred years ago. This has made Youta second guess whether he can save anyone. Then, he encounters a child on the beach that changes everything.

What happened?

Reel told Youta that Genius was wrong about the Jealous God and then disappeared. That left Youta questioning all of the advice that Genius had given him. Could he save everyone from their fate? Did mating with them do anything at all? Regardless, Rumi insisted that she wanted to continue being with him, even if it was only for another year. As such, they were in the middle of mating when Tia came to get them for a welcome meal. She didn’t seem to notice or care. Rumi told Youta that since there were no males in the world, some girls would seek comfort from one another so it wasn’t out of the ordinary. At least, Tia did see enough to question Youta’s gender.

During their meal, Pinako asked Youta what he was hoping to achieve by coming to Reel Town. He told her about the jealous god and how he came from another world. She didn’t seem that surprised and told him that since Reel had updated him on the situation, he should leave. Youta was already doubting his role in anything but he decided to stick around a little longer. He learned that Tia was a fantastic cook and that Hanahana had devised a system to measure the tides. She then told him that there would be a record low tide in about a week which would make the Jealous God’s shrine accessible. He decided to stick around until then.

Then, one evening, he saw a little girl on the beach, her hands bloody. He approached her but she ran off. When he told Pinako about it, she asked him to help them defeat her as she was a monster who had plagued the beach for more than one hundred years. Since only Youta could see her, he agreed. Well, he agreed to talk to the monster at least. When they found her, he discovered that Rumi could see her too, however, no one else could. He convinced her to let them help her search for the fragments of a jewel that would save her mother who was trapped in Jealous God’s shrine. However, there was another who was interested in their success and in Youta.

What did you think?

Excellent. The local god just told Youta that everything Genius had told him was a lie, but who is actually lying? Could it be the local god who lives in the area with a shrine to the Jealous God? That seems more likely. We also got to see a mysterious character, Kai who appears to have Pinako wrapped around their finger. She appears to be a woman who is pretending to be a male, although she does have a fairly elaborate marking around her neck. I’m very interested in what that means as it’s quite different from the plain band that has appeared around Yumi’s neck.

I liked that Rumi being able to see the girl when the others couldn’t has given Youta a bit more confidence in his ability to change things. It is still fairly shocking to see just how much control the girls lose though when he touches them. Tia’s body pretty much seemed to go into autopilot as her mind gave up. She gained the mark which is interesting and we’ll get a chance to see just how unusual Lilia is because Hanahana saw Youta and Tia mating and has already lost control. Youta has got some work to do.

I also can’t wait to see how Kai plays into this. It would appear that Pinako has a new suspicion about her, but she may not be able to do anything about it given the control over her Kai has. Also, what is the “Darkest Dawn’ that Pinako mentioned? As with each volume so far, there has been lots of sex and lots of mystery. This really is a fascinating series. I can’t wait to see how it all fits together when we get to the end.
