Yota believed that he had resolved things with Nakta which meant it was time to wake up Nishina, however, will the others sit by and watch as he wakes the Jealous God? I don’t think Yota has thought this through!
Parallel Paradise (Volume 12) – Love or the World, Which Will He Choose?
What happened?
The other girls found Yota in the dungeon mating with Nakta, which was exactly as Rumi had expected it to be. She believed that Yota tries to solve every problem with mating, and given what they just witnessed, she certainly seemed to be right. After finishing with Nakta, Yota came out of the dungeon and found the others lying on the floor in various states of arousal. He tried to explain that since Nakta was no longer a virgin, she had no reason to kill them as she was no longer a knight of the Empress. It seemed to make sense, but they decided to keep her locked up, all the same. Regardless, Yota had something else he needed to deal with.
His entire reason behind returning to Sandrio was to wake Nishina. He defeated Galia and obtained the key card. The guardians of Sandrio had already deciphered the passcode so all he had to do was wake her up. This didn’t sit well with Kazuchi. She told Amane that she was to kill the Jealous God the second she was released from the protective barrier. It could mean the end of everything if she woke for even a second. That was what Galia believed and that was why they had defended the city for generations. It had finally fallen to them to put an end to their struggles. Of course, they couldn’t tell Yota this.
Yota put the key card into the machine and then entered the passcode. All of the instructions, however, were in English, making it hard for him to understand all of them. It warned them that the barrier could not be reactivated once removed and that since the expiration date had passed there was no guarantee that anything would work. That wouldn’t have changed Yota’s mind, anyhow. He unlocked the barrier. It fizzed and then vanished. Amane reacted first, slicing Nishina’s head off. Yota didn’t know how to react. He stared in stunned silence as Nishina’s head hit the floor.
Kazuchi tried to explain that they didn’t have a choice. The Jealous God’s awakening would bring about the end of the world and the death of the Jealous God’s death would free everyone from the curse of their Last Moon. Then, something unexpected happened. Nishina’s head dissolved. When they looked back at her body, her head had grown back. Amane tried to attack again, but a magical barrier stopped her this time. It was too late, the Jealous God, Nishina was awake. However, she looked around, confused by what she saw. Yota approached her, hoping that seeing him would make things easier. She stared at him blankly, unaware of who he was. She didn’t even know who she was!
Nishina had no memories beyond that moment. She didn’t know who she was or where she was! Yota had so many questions to ask her and now there was no way she could answer. Since she couldn’t move, the girls took turns to bring her food and keep her company. Yota, however, was struggling to find his purpose. He had believed he came to this world to defeat the Jealous God and save everyone, but now, he wasn’t so sure. Surprisingly, Yota turned to Nakta to talk through the situation. Maybe an outsider’s perspective could help. He cannot kill the Jealous God since it’s Nishina and he can’t talk to Nishina since she’s forgotten everything.
Nakta offered Yota a glimmer of hope, however, it came with a price. There is another witch that is said to be able to change memories. If anyone would be able to get Nishina’s memories back, it was her. The price is one human brain. The witch eats human brains to survive, so if Yota was willing to pay that price he may be able to get his answers. He might even still be able to save everyone. The witch lives in Arslayer which is a three-day ride from Sandrio. It’s also within the Empress’ territory so going there would be risky even without the threat of the witch. Regardless, Yota is going and he’s taking Nishina with him.
Rumi tells Yota that she will come with them too. She’s committed to being by his side no matter what. However, when Yota tells Nishina about the plan, she doesn’t want to go through with it. There’s something inside of her telling her not to regain her memories. She feels that it would be a terrible idea. Instead, she wants to stay there and make new memories with Yota. He can’t do that. He needs to talk to the girl he grew up with. After all, he still likes her. Reluctantly, she agrees to Yota’s plan.
That evening the Guardians of Sandrio throw a leaving party for Yota and Rumi. There’s nice food. The mead is flowing… Very quickly, Yota gets to learn just what kind of drunks each of the girls is and since the previous leaving parties have all gone a certain way, Yota has a good idea of what will happen next. Surprisingly, Kazuchi is the first to demand that Yota mates with her once more. And as soon as that happens, everyone wants in. Well, it wouldn’t be a leaving party without an orgy! The next morning, after waking up naked and sticky, Yota gets ready to leave. Kazuchi presents him with a sword made from Hihirokane – a legendary material derived from a dragon’s pancreas, Galia’s pancreas. They set off on their next adventure unaware that back in Yota’s world, his father is about to turn off his life-support!
What did you think?
There were a couple of good twists in this one. The girls plotting to kill Nishina as soon as the barrier was dropped wasn’t one of them, but Nishina regrowing her head was. Having her lose her memories is going to make this that much more exciting when she gets them back because Galia warned Yota that she would kill him the second she saw him. She clearly has an idea that something like that might happen since she didn’t want to get her memories back. I also had to laugh at Yota for releasing Nakta and not expecting her to give him a good beating for what he did to her. It was probably just the thing to get his overconfidence in check ahead of the next challenge.
Of course, the final twist was that his father was about to pull the plug on his ventilator. What does that mean for Yota in this world? I’m guessing he won’t be able to return to his world if that happens, so death here would be permanent. Lilia did tell him that she wouldn’t be able to send him back again, so maybe she knew that this was going to happen. I’m excited to see how this impacts things and whether Yota is somehow made aware that it happened back home. But then, what if something happens to stop the plug from being pulled? Could Lilia intervene in another way? There are lots of possibilities.
Another moment of interest was that the bicorn was fine with Nishina which implies that she is not a virgin. She also doesn’t have a ring around her neck which further points to the idea that Lilia and Hanahana are possibly from Yota’s world to begin with. We still don’t know where the Empress gets the girls that populate this world from, so it’s possible that she is stealing babies from other worlds. I feel like I could spend hours coming up with theories for this story which is a wonderful feeling. I’m also relieved that I have another seven books available to me right now, so I’m going to read on and hope to find out more!
