Gleipnir (Volume 8) – I Knew You’d Come!

Shuichi and Clair came away from their meeting with Kaito feeling deflated. They couldn’t hope to beat him, so they decided on regaining Shuichi’s memories and that meant they needed to find Elana. Clair had a plan!
Gleipnir (Volume 8) – I Knew You’d Come!
What happened?
The first thing they needed to do was to make sure that they didn’t die while fighting Kaito. Would they know if he brought them back? After cutting their hands, they were relieved to see that they hadn’t been revived. So, after bandaging up their wounds, they had to work out what to do next. Defeating Kaito was impossible at present and Shuichi still had no memory of him or Elena. However, Kaito told them that it was probably Elena who wiped their memories. He also made some sinister insinuations about Clair, too. What did he mean?
Anyhow, Clair had a plan on how to lure Elena out of hiding. She sent her an email that simply said “Shuichi is dead!” Elena showed up in a hurry and demanded to know what happened to Shuichi. Of course, he was fine. They demanded that Elena restore their memories as Clair asked if Elena and Shuichi had been dating. She taunted her as she undressed and climbed inside him. They fought, trying to get Elena to relent, but she held her ground. However, instead of saying she did it to save them, she pointed out that they were merely in her way.
That was when Clair’s plan kicked into gear. Isao used his abilities to cover the building they were in with plants, blocking out the light. Elena couldn’t see anything, but Shuichi and Clair could use his sense of smell to track her down. Eventually, they created an opening by asking Elena to show her face to them before she wiped their memories again. That was when Youta hit her with everything he had and Shuichi followed up with his gun. However, their attempts to get more out of her were stopped by Chihiro who had drawn the attention of Honoka.

What did you think?
All right. So this was the part that was adapted into the thrilling fight scene at the end of the anime between Elena and, Shuichi and Clair. Of course, the fight in the manga was far more purposeful and while not as flashy, it definitely made more sense in the flow of the story. I’m not saying the anime didn’t make sense, but this was a better way to structure things. We also discovered that Ikeuchi didn’t die in the forest unlike in the anime. He found Madoka as he was dying in the burnt clearing where the fight had been. Madoka actually gave Ikeuchi his coins which were close to one hundred, believing the Ikeuchi would surely screw the world up even more.
I liked that Sayaka’s group were still working with Clair and Shuichi because that makes for more possibilities and I’m just glad that Sayaka is still around. Of course, the fact that Chihiro researched Honoka means that she will come looking for her soon adds some pressure to things and gives them all a chance to see first-hand what they are facing. There’s still lots to be resolved such as what is Clair’s part in this. I speculated that she could have been created as a wish, but she could also have been someone who was responsible for Aiko killing herself. Whatever it is, Kaito blames her for everything that has happened, so it’s got to be fairly serious. I can’t wait to get some answers.
