Gleipnir (Volume 13) – I Can’t Let the Story End Here!

Shuichi and Clair arrived just in time to save Elena. They would have been there sooner, but they went to the alien for advice. He didn’t think there was anything anyone could do, but Shuichi came up with a plan!
Gleipnir (Volume 13) – I Can’t Let the Story End Here!
What happened?
They attacked Honoka with everything, slicing her up over and over again, but nothing was permanent. Clair revealed that they had visited the alien for help. He told them that his race left their world because they had evolved to such a point that there was nothing left for them. They were immortal, but there was no drive to survive, no conflict. They just simply existed and that wasn’t enough for them. So, they transformed themselves into coins and flew into the unknown with the hope that they would find purpose again. And they found it in humanity. The medicine that the alien gives to people to allow them to gain powers is actually the alien race. After all, what difference does one more microorganism living inside a human’s body?
They learned that because Honoka was made with a human host, she is more susceptible to the alien’s mindset and has then been feeding on the negativity of the world around her. However, since Honoka doesn’t have a physical form as such there is almost no way to defeat her. This reminded Shuichi of something Clair once said to him when they first met. She noticed that he was empty and that there must be a reason for that. He believed that if he could fuse with Honoka, he would give her a form and then they could lock away her desire to erase everything. What that meant for him, he didn’t know. Elena had been concerned that this was his plan since they first met her and that was why she sealed away his memories.
During the fight, Shuichi forced Clair out of his body and approached Honoka with his plan. Elena and Clair tried to stop him, but it was too late. The fusion had already begun. Then, just as it appeared to be working, Ikeuchi appeared and drove Honoka’s broken spear through Shuichi’s chest. She separated from him and revealed that the reason he was angry was that she had erased Chihiro. She showed him what he was missing as she erased him and unleashed an army of giant Honokas into the world. Was this really the end?

What did you think?
Well, we got more information about the aliens and how they came to be here. We also learned that the medicine is made from the coins, which makes sense since they need a coin to get one. It was interesting that the aliens have been pretty much absolved of being the villains and that he had been trying to stop Honoka for some time. However, I absolutely did not see Ikeuchi coming in at the end and screwing everything up. It’s funny because Madoka did wonder how Ikeuchi would screw up the world and now we know. That said, how messed up have you got to be to want to undo what Shuichi was doing just because you hate them? He’d rather see the world destroyed than let them be the heroes.
There’s one volume left and while there are still some questions that I feel need to be answered such as who was bullying Aiko, I have absolutely no idea how this is going to end. I don’t think Shuichi will make it and that worries me that Clair will follow him. The only way to stop that is for Elena to sacrifice herself, but I’m not sure how that’ll help. Either way, I’m expecting the final volume to be dark. Really dark. There could be something that resembles a happy ending, but I don’t see it happening. Well, I’m going in. This is going to be intense!

Too graphic.
That is very much a reflection of this series, although that is also one of the reasons I love it!
