Gleipnir (Volume 7) – Don’t Come Here, Ever Again!
What happened?
The girl that Clair and Shuichi defeated was willing to tell them everything if they did one thing for her. She promised that it wouldn’t be hard. Clair agreed. The girl told them about Kaito, the one who collected one hundred coins and how his power was to bring back the dead. Then, she asked them to kill her. Well, if she was even her anymore. She had been killed by Kaito who then brought her back. Every time she gets injured these insects come out of her and rebuild her. She can’t hurt her head though so she assumes the nest is there. If they destroy her head, maybe this nightmare will finally be over. Before they pull the trigger, she tells them to turn around and leave the mountain. No good can come from moving forward.
Kaito knew that two of his pawns had been killed the second it happened, however, he had little time to think about it as Naoto revealed himself. He told Kaito that what he was doing was wrong. That monster that he had created was too dangerous. It may look like Honoka, but it’s not her. Kaito, however, believes it is. He believes that the soul is eternal and by changing the world in this way he can remove death from everything. The world is better for his involvement. Naoto tries to attack but is swarmed by Kaito’s reincarnations. He fights free and reveals his monster form, which looks a lot like Shuichi’s form. When Honoka shows up, he calls for help and is extracted from the fight by an ally.
Shuichi tells Clair that it’s not too late to turn back. He will go on. He has to. However, she doesn’t need to. Clair reminds him that they die together or not at all. Then, they are surrounded by more monsters. Clair tells the monsters to take them to Kaito. They send a picture to a monster who is close to Kaito. He asks them to take Honoka away and allows Shuichi and Clair to meet with him. Kaito offers to tell them everything if they can beat him. They can’t. It’s not even close, but he lets them leave, warning them never to come back. Before they go, he alludes to Clair being the incarnation of the Devil.

What did you think?
Yes! This is what I wanted to see from the story after we moved beyond the part covered by the anime. In fact, the entire confrontation with Elena appears to have been added or at least brought forward. Also, the scene where Clair realises that Shuichi has been living alone, thinking that his parents are just at work. Anyhow, none of that has happened yet in the manga as we followed Shuichi and Clair confront Kaito. He was just as powerful and terrifying as they led us to believe. At the moment, it looks like he can’t be killed, but there’s something about Clair that bothers him. Also, Elena believes that Kaito would never kill Shuichi, so why is that?
However, it’s hard to think about anything else after the scene when Kaito attacked them with his insects and had them burrow through Shuichi and then into Clair’s flesh. That made my skin crawl. There was also something about the way Kaito looked at Clair that made me think there is a lot more to this than we’ve been told so far. My guess is that Clair isn’t even real. What if she was created by a coin wish? There has to be something that they can do that will give them the power to beat Kaito. I think they probably already have it, but what is it? And finally, why did Elena erase his memories? The anime made it seem like it was so he didn’t remember his parents being erased by Honoka, but there’s got to be more to it. As it normally is, we got some answers but there are so many more that appear off the back of them.
