Solo Leveling (Volume 7) – Everything Will Be Fine!

The raid seemed to be going well. The Japanese Hunters had drawn the ants out of the nest while the Korean Hunters went after the Queen. Everything changed when a powerful magic beast started slaughtering everyone. That was until Jinwoo stepped in!
Solo Leveling (Volume 7) – Everything Will Be Fine!
What happened?
The Ant Queen had been able to create a new type of warrior – the Ant King and it was many times more powerful than her most trusted warriors. It went out with the rest of the ants to see what was going on and then, just as the Japanese Hunters were starting to relax, it attacked, wiping out two of the four units. Ryuji Goto hurried to check on the missing Hunters and was surprised to find their lifeless bodies. However, to him, that just showed that they weren’t strong enough.
Meanwhile, the Korean Hunters had defeated the Queen’s bodyguards and were closing in on her. She continued to fight and then let out a deafening roar. Suddenly, the ants from outside began to pour back into the hive. With no time to lose, Haein Cha beheaded the Queen. It looked like the Koreans had defeated the S-Rank dungeon… well, that’s how it looked until the King arrived. It smashed Haein Cha into a wall and then turned on the others. The others rushed to help her but were just as easily taken out. Luckily, they had Byunggyu Min, an S-Ranked healer with them otherwise, they would all be dead. However, even with his stealth skill, the King Ant found him.

Baek and Ma charged in to defend Byunggu, but they were too late. The Ant King bit off his head, leaving them with little hope of surviving. Then, it asked where their king was. It wanted to fight the strongest Hunter. Then, it sensed a presence outside and disappeared. It tracked down Ryuij Goto and attacked instantly. He was able to fend off its initial attack and then told the rest of his team to run – they were in his way. However, they were barely able to flee before it attacked again, killing Goto.
Back in the nest, the Korean Hunters were struggling to keep up with the returning ants. Jongin Choi tried to keep them back with his fire magic, but he couldn’t go all out without Byunggu there to save the others from the flames. Then, just as the end appeared imminent, Igris emerged from Baek’s shadow and fought back. That was the sign Jinwoo had been waiting for. He switched places with Igris and joined the fight on Jeju Island. Jinwoo summoned his other shadows and set them to work on the ants. Right now, Jinwoo was their only hope of surviving.

Jinwoo summoned the fallen ants as new shadow warriors and turned them on the living ants. He quickly handed around a healing potion to the other Hunters, however, he couldn’t do anything to help Haein Cha since her injuries were too grave. Then, the King Ant returned and approached Jinwoo, still searching for a powerful opponent. It zeroed in on Jinwoo and engaged him in conversation. Jinwoo was surprised that it could talk but didn’t seem at all concerned about its strength. The others, however, knew what it could do and were aware that it must have killed Goto since it came back.
Jinwoo used Ruler’s Hand to crush the King, creating cracks in its exoskeleton. The Ant King countered by attacking Jinwoo with a powerful venom created from absorbing cone snails. Of course, that did nothing to Jinwoo since he’s able to resist toxins. The Ant King realised that it was losing and tried to escape, however, Jinwoo was faster. He also had Ruler’s Hand with which he was able to grab it from a distance. Then, Jinwoo closed into finish it with Fatal Strike, however, the skill evolved into Mutilation which made the job that much simpler. Having defeated the Ant King, Jinwoo turned his attention to Haein Cha who was close to death. There was only one option available to him. His shadows found Byunggu’s body for him, allowing Jinwoo to summon him. The shadow of Byunggu healed Haein even without being asked. Then, Baek asked Jinwoo to release Byunggu which he did. Jinwoo was fine with just adding the Ant King’s shadow to his army. Welcome Beru!

What did you think?
So much action! This was an insanely fun read even though it was all incredibly obvious. Jinwoo was going to swoop in and save the day by using Exchange. We all knew that, but it was still awesome when it happened. I think the reason it was so enjoyable is because of everyone else’s reactions to his arrival. Ma didn’t seem to know what to make of Jinwoo and was worried about how close he was to the Ant King, whereas Baek knew better. He simply told Ma that everything would be fine. I was surprised to see Goto go down so easily, but that just showed how much stronger Jinwoo was. We also got to see a glimpse of a couple of National Hunters – one from the USA and another from China.
Again, it was also fairly obvious that the Hunter who could increase other Hunter’s limits was left shellshocked when she tried to increase Jinwoo’s level. That didn’t make it any less entertaining. If anything it was amazing seeing the reactions of the other people present. Characters getting surprised by an overpowered character is absolutely one of my guilty pleasures. Finally, we saw what was presumably the people on the other side of this war! They emerged on Jeju Island and made the entire team of Hunters there to collect crystal faint. My guess is that one of them is going to approach Jinwoo in the Red Gate that he’s just got himself stuck in. According to the Webtoon chapters, I’m over halfway through this series, so I think things are just going to get more and more intense from here. If it can keep up the intensity, this is going to be a wild ride to the finish.

Season One

It’s good to know you’re enjoying this arc of SoLev in this webtoon adaptation. Once again, Dubu should’ve been appreciated more back then. You never know your fave artists will be gone too soon, especially the young ones.
If my ongoing series ever get popular (though it’s a very small chance), I’m determined to get myself involved to whichever (trustworthy) publishing company wants to adapt my series. I just found out about Primal Hunter which unfortunately has a subpar art and that the adapted scenes got drastically changed in its webtoon form (according to novel readers) which is the reason why I must get myself involved no matter what. I want my webtoon adaptation because appealing to the novel audience and bring in new readers who can understand more in seeing pictures. I even fly to America if I have to!

I don’t think there’s been a part that I haven’t enjoyed and I’m loving how it seems to get bigger and better with each volume. It really is sad that Dubu died at only 37! I loved his work.
And for sure. If I’m even lucky enough to have any of my stories turned into a manga, an anime, or anything, I would absolutely want to be involved in the process. I’ve seen too many adaptations that don’t quite live up to the originals that it would be a very big concern for me. And, I’d go anywhere too to make that happen.
