Solo Leveling (Episode 11) – A Knight Who Defends an Empty Throne

What happened?

The Job-Change quest is unlike anything he’s faced before. It’s the first time he’s been able to activate it when and where he wanted to, hence the secluded location where no one else will get hurt. He’s also been able to think about it before entering and it only became available once he reached a certain level. It’s going to be tougher than any of the dungeons he’s defeated so far. Regardless, he’s got to keep getting stronger. It’s his only hope of finding a cure for his mother and ensuring his sister can stay in school. Everything depends on him.

Inside the dungeon, Jinwoo finds himself facing an armoured warrior and as such, his dagger is almost ineffective. However, he’s fought armoured monsters before and knows just how to deal with them. Putting his dagger away, he grabs its head and squeezes. However, that was just a brief sample of what he will face. More monsters appear. One can use Stealth like an assassin. There’s also a magic caster, an archer, and another warrior. He’s going to have to use everything he’s learned up to now just to stay on top of them.

Jinho was having dinner with his father when his brother arrived to join them. He had been busy scouting an S-ranked hunter to be the face of his guild, and since the homegrown talent won’t consider it he’s gone abroad and has several lined up. They just need to agree on the terms. He’s also become aware of Jinho buying up the C-ranked Dungeons and while he admires his little brother’s enthusiasm, he flat-out warns him to not get in his way. Luckily, no one else seems to know about Jinwoo yet. Meanwhile, Choi Jong-In is taking his strike team which includes Cha Hae-In and other strong fighters to Jeju Island on a reconnaissance mission that is likely to become another battle to the death.

Jinwoo defeated all of the monsters in the first area of the dungeon and took a moment to allow his fatigue to drop. He also found a number of helpful drops from the monsters which he took full advantage of considering he can’t use any potions to heal himself. He even equipped some armour. Once he was ready, he headed into the final room and found a red knight defending an empty throne. This monster was stronger than anything he’d seen before now, and it could match him for speed. Jinwoo fought and fought, hoping to make a dent in its armour, but it appeared to have no weaknesses. At one point, it tossed him across the room where he landed on the throne, barely alive. It closed in to finish him off, but he found the strength to counter, driving his dagger into its eye. He kept attacking, driving it back until finally it fell to the ground defeated. However, the dungeon was not over yet. He now faced an endless onslaught of monsters. The rules were to survive as long as possible for more rewards. He had a teleportation stone should he need it… well, he did until a monster knocked it from his hands!

What did you think?

This dungeon was insane. I loved how it combined everything that Jinwoo had faced before in one giant endless challenge. The Red Knight was so cool too. I could have watched them fight for much longer, although I do appreciate them keeping it to one episode. It does feel a little like stabbing the enemy in the eye is the only thing that seems to work for Jinwoo, and how many times has he had a teleportation stone knocked out of his hands now? Is it three times? Seems a little careless to let that continually happen. Anyhow, it was a blast and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next episode. I’m guessing, Jinwoo will somehow come out of this dungeon and find himself on Jeju Island, finally bringing him and Cha Hae-In together.

And poor Jinho. He must now realise that he’s been a little too exuberant with his attempts to make a better guild than his brother. Surely, it’s not a bad thing for the business to have two guilds, but it does highlight how poorly he handled things. So far, we know that Ahn Sangmin of the White Tiger Guild and his brother both know that something is going on. It’s safe to assume that every dungeon he attempts now will be heavily scrutinised by the larger and more aspirational guilds. He’s drawn too much attention to himself and that may make it hard for Jinwoo to continue to work with him unless he gets outed on say Jeju Island! There’s lots to look forward to and only one episode left. Has there been an announcement for a second season or cour yet?

  1. I loved this episode! I was convinced the minute he sat on the throne, the battle would end. That would have been very anti-climactic though. I’m not sure how they will tie everything together, but I am sure it will be good!

    • I did look like that for a moment, but yeah, the actual end to the fight was much better. Can’t wait to find out if he finds that teleportation stone and where it takes him. I’m still betting it’s Jeju Island.

  2. I believe this is only the second time Jinwoo’s lost his teleportation stone in the worst way possible, but even for only a second time, it’s ridiculous. I have a hunch that skill stone he just decided to save for later is paramount to his survival right now, including some relation to this mysterious “job change.”

Things are obviously going to go wrong on the island, but I somehow doubt that’s where the teleport will take him. It’ll probably just deposit him back next to his car, just in time to see the crisis unfolding and threatening his family in some way, and he will race back home in some “this is where it gets serious” cliffhanger. That’s my guess.

    • He dropped one when he was facing Cerberus. I thought he also dropped one in the first solo dungeon but I could be wrong. Still two is too many. It’s also possible that the system will just pull him out because the quest is to see how long he can survive for. Sounds like it’s expecting him to die eventually. It’s already stopped his death with a fraction of a second a couple of times.

      Big cliffhanger coming, for sure!
