I’m a Behemoth, an S-Ranked Monster, but Mistaken for a Cat, I Live as an Elf Girl’s Pet (Volume 5) – A Dragon with a Fire in Her Belly…

They returned from their first trip into the labyrinth with Stella intact and aware of the strength that she would bring to the party. It’s a good job too because someone has come looking for Aria for a quest and Vulcan can’t go.
I’m a Behemoth, an S-Ranked Monster, but Mistaken for a Cat, I Live as an Elf Girl’s Pet (Volume 5) – A Dragon with a Fire in Her Belly…
What happened?
Aria almost lost control at the sight of Tama’s furry tentacles, but Vulcan quickly snapped her out of it. However, she wasn’t the only one buzzing with the possibilities of his newly revealed skill. Stella was even more determined to mate with him than before. She was also keenly aware that Aria might be strong, but she was not stronger than Tama and that made her question the pecking order. Anyhow, they battled up and down the floors facing monster after monster and when they finally came out they had nothing to show for their time other than the knowledge that Stella made their party incredibly powerful. Maybe, the strongest in the area. So, they headed to the guild to register Stella as an adventurer. Inside, they were met by the skeleton of an Earth Dragon. Tama reassured Stella that it wasn’t her skeleton, but she already knew that.
Then, Arnold came looking for Aria. Someone had asked for her help with a mission by name. Word of her accomplishments against the demon was now bringing work to her. Leis, a merchant who had recently secured the rights for the Earth Dragon skeleton from Renald. He needed some bodyguards to help him bring the skeleton back so that it could be used for weapon crafting. That was Stella’s skeleton. Vulcan informed Aria that she couldn’t leave her shop for that long, but at least she had Stella with her. Tama was concerned about how that might go. Oddly, it didn’t go the way he had expected. If anything, it just reminded Stella of their battle to the death and that made her desire to mate with him even more insatiable. On the trip home, they were attacked by a Small Treant. The map said it should be a field, but there was a forest. After racing through while Tama provided cover with his fire attacks, they delivered the skeleton and then went back to explore this possible new dungeon. If it was a dungeon, they might be the first people to explore it.

What did you think?
So, the entire Aria is going into heat cliffhanger at the end of the last volume turned out to be absolutely nothing. Vulcan calmed her with a single sentence and then things carried on as if it hadn’t happened. That felt like a missed opportunity to show how strong Aria can get when she loses control. Anyhow, this volume was still a lot of fun. I still love to see Stella throwing her shield and sword around, squashing monsters with ease and the potential she brings to the party is undeniable. I did mention in my last review that the story felt like it needed some big driving force and Leis hinted at the possibility that there was going to be a big war. This feels like it could be just the thing to take this series to the next level.
We met two new characters in Feri, a Dryad, and Lily, a Pixie. They both fit perfectly with the scantly clad group of adventurers and while there’s no hint that they will join up long-term, I’m glad that we’re going to see more of them in the next volume at least. I think there’s going to be the potential for some crazy things with these two rare beings in the human city. I’m also looking forward to Aria, Tama, and Stella taking on the boss of the tree dungeon. It also feels like Tama has just given up on concealing his skills now as everyone just seems to accept that he’s an elemental cat with more tricks up his sleeve than should be possible.

What was your highlight?
This series has continued to make fun of the adventurers objectifying Aria, Vulcan, and Stella. They were busy arguing about what was better – Aria’s cleavage, Vulcan’s sideboob, or Stella’s underboob! It showed how the girls feel with this group of unsubtle gawkers staring at them. Luckily, they have Tama who is more than capable of scaring off even the most determined lookers. It’s a nice touch and also somewhat self-critical considering the series is drawn that way. Anyhow, Tama isn’t going to scare me away…
The moments where Stella and Tama are communicating through telepathy continue to add another dimension to the story. It’s great that he’s able to reassure her and give her the push she needs to become a truly reliable member of the party. Of course, Aria seems to be onto them and I’m worried that she is going to get jealous, assuming that they have some sort of secret connection… which they do… but I can see there is some sort of confrontation at some point, plus the “Teardrops of Truth” could turn everything on its head.
