I’m a Behemoth, an S-Ranked Monster, but Mistaken for a Cat, I Live as an Elf Girl’s Pet (Volume 8) – A Behemoth Meets an Elite Order!

What happened?

They found the troll on level ten of the labyrinth. As an A-ranked monster, it had scared all of the lesser monsters up meaning that they were appearing on levels that the adventurers weren’t expecting them. There had been a lot of injuries and even some deaths, so they needed to take care of the troll. Aria asked Tama to stay back and give them all a chance to defeat it first. He could always step in if needed, but they also needed to develop their skills. Tama agreed and watched on as the group pounded the troll out of existence. Everyone played their part Stella and Vulcan giving it a good whack before Aria sliced off its head and arms. Anna was delighted when they returned with the news of their successful adventure and the fact that the labyrinth should return to normal now. As Anna prepared their reward, they informed them that the entire party, Vulcan included had been summoned to the Imperial Palace in recognition of what happened in Gladstone.

Vulcan was surprised since she had not been involved, but she also seemed a little concerned about going to see the Emperor. Of course, there was no way any of them could refuse such an invitation so off they went. After arriving they were taken to see the Holy Emperor of Aushura, Geizel Aushura. They soon learned that Vulcan already knew the Emperor. In fact, she was one of the heroes of the great battle of Ragnarok, and she was an artefact smith. As if that wasn’t surprising enough, they were introduced to the Emperor’s son, Julius who also fought in Ragnarok. It turned out that the Four Fiends were returning and they sought to resurrect the demon lords. The Emperor wants them to join the fight and is prepared to give them whatever they need – equipment, artefacts, training. Of course, they accept, and that was before Aria learned that her trainer would be the Sword Saint – the hero who saved her and inspired her to become an adventurer!

What did you think?

This was another fun volume and it was packed with revelations. The most interesting one was that the Grand Sorcerer who was the key to defeating the demon lords was actually from Japan, Earth. That’s right, this is now an isekai story although the person isekaied hasn’t been in the story other than by name. It also turns out that the Sword Saint and the demon lord who switched sides, Bellezebeaut are both married to the Grand Sorcerer and also his property. I’m not sure what that says about the Grand Summoner or this world, but that realisation made Stella aware that it was possible for Aria and her to share Tama…

The funny thing about this volume and the development of the Four Fiends returning is that this is just the sort of grand adventurer that I felt this series needed. The girls needed something bigger to really test them and push them to greatness. However, I can’t help but feel like it all came about a little too easily. It all seems a little too perfect. Now, it might just be that the story goes that way, which wouldn’t be too surprising given the overall chilled nature of things, but it also has a bit of a dark streak every now and then, so I’m not too sure I’m ready to trust the Grand Summoner just yet. Either way, things have definitely gotten a little more interesting.

What was your highlight?

This volume ended when they found one of the Four Fiends, deep within the labyrinth and were just about to confront them. That means the next volume should be pretty exciting from the get-go. However, after that cliffhanger, there was a bonus chapter – something to fill the extra pages rather than push into the next part immediately. Sometimes, these bonus chapters are kind of boring othertimes, they can be a lot of fun. Well, this one was just what this series has needed for quite a while now. The ecchi content has dropped off a lot since the first volume. Sure, the girls are still there and they are all very hot, but things haven’t been nearly as over the top as you should expect from ecchi stories.

Well, this bonus chapter more than made up for that. This was the first time the girls got to try out the new outdoor bath at their house and things got a little out of control. Now, I’m not saying you should rush out and buy this volume purely for the bonus chapter, but I certainly wouldn’t try to dissuade you either. You’ll see what I mean…
