Cautious Hero: The Hero is Overpowered but Overly Cautious (Episode 1) – This Hero is Too Cautious
What happened?
It was Ristarte’s chance to prove herself as one of the top gods, but that didn’t change the fact that this was an S-Class world and most gods, even the most experienced were not willing to take on a world like this. Since she needed a human to defeat the demon lord, she scanned the files on possible candidates from Japan. She found that they were the most accepting of the situation since they were well accustomed to the idea of being summoned to another world to fight the demon lord. After going through file after file, Ristarte came across the perfect candidate by chance. He was only level 1 but his stats were incredible. He was a one-in-a-hundred-million find. She quickly summoned him to the realm of the gods.
It wasn’t long after his arrival that she realised there was a big flaw that she might have overlooked in her excitement at finding someone so talented. He may be strong, but he was also incredibly cautious. Seiya initially distrusted Ristarte and her intentions but eventually accepted his role in things. However, he would need to prepare first and make sure he was one hundred percent ready. Once he had trained for an entire week, he was ready to go to Gaeabrande and see what he was up against. Ristarte chose the perfect place where they could get equipment and begin to build his XP. However, after going all out on a helpless slime, Seiya caught the attention of one of the demon lord’s Four Heavenly Kings, Chaos Machina. She had been waiting for his arrival, expecting him to appear in a quiet town with low-level monsters. There was no way she was going to let him get any stronger.

What did you think?
Seiya is hilarious. His approach to things is something that I can get behind. When I play video games, I will grind my levels as early as possible and then when I play through the rest of the game, I easily defeat everything because my levels are far higher than they should be had I just played at a normal rate. So, seeing Seiya do just that made me smile. I love that he is suspicious of absolutely everything, and I secretly hope that all of his concerns end up being true. Will the old guy in the village end up being a monster in disguise? What about the little girl? Of course, his concerns paid off when they discovered that Chaos Machina was waiting for them. She was level sixty-six which is going to be a problem for Seiya who is currently a level one.
I already have a lot of respect for the demon lord who isn’t going to sit back and wait for the hero to come to him. He knew how it would work and set his Four Heavenly Kings out to find him. To be fair, Ristarte should have considered this given that this is an S-Class world, meaning that the threat is as bad as it could possibly be. I should probably point out that this is the second time I’ve watched this series and I’m using it as a means to update my posts from 2019. I’m updating the format, the text, and the images. Basically, only the link remains the same. I’ve been planning on rewatching it for a while and this seems like the perfect way to do that.

What was your highlight?
This series takes a fairly bold approach of having the two main characters fairly unlikeable from the beginning. Sure, we can understand their approaches to things and with Seiya, I see a lot of sense in his methods, but that doesn’t mean I can’t see that he’s rude and standoffish. Ristarte is overly confident and believes that her status means he should listen to her and instantly accept her advice. Well, we’ve already seen that being too confident will get you in a lot of trouble in this world.
Anyhow, the beauty of having two unlikeable main characters is that the first episode will likely zero in on the show’s target audience. People who are put off by Seiya and Ristarte will see this as the perfect chance to walk away, while those who find this hilarious will stick around. Neither group is in the wrong. In fact, it’s better to show people what they will get from a story as early as possible. The more time someone has invested in something the more annoyed they will be if they end up not liking it. Give them an early chance to walk away. After all, you can’t please everyone so you might as well focus on those who will love it.
