Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious (Episode 2) – Too Much For a Novice Goddess to Bear

What happened?

Chaos Machina almost got them and she probably would have had Seiya not left his bag for Ristarte to trip over, forcing Chaos Machina to miss and give him an opening to unleash a fire attack. Despite her annoyance, Chaos Machina was mildly impressed that they survived. She knew they would be back, but she had a plan to make sure they came back sooner rather than later. Back in the Divine Realm, Seiya told Ristarte to get out of his room as he needed to train. While she was waiting for him, she looked into Gaeabrande and found Chaos Machina sitting on a villager. She warned Ristarte that if they didn’t come back, she would start executing the villagers and then she beheaded the first one. Ristarte ran to tell Seiya that they needed to go back.

However, he told her that if he died, the world was doomed, and he was right. Then, Chaos Machina selected the father of the little girl who gave Seiya the lucky charm in the last episode as her victim. After that, the child would follow. Ristarte was getting impatient and felt that they desperately needed to go. Then, just when she was ready to lose her mind, Seiya revealed that he was perfectly prepared. She scanned his abilities and was shocked to see that he had raised his abilities to level 21. Ristarte was about to open a portal when Seiya told her to open it nearby, but not close enough that she could see them. That gave him the chance to free the villager. Chaos Machina was impressed once more and decided to unleash her full potential, making her level 66. Even with the power difference, she couldn’t land a hit on him. It was time to play her trump card. She swung her sword in the air and then drove it through her chest. This unleashed a curse evolving her into a terrifying demon, giving her a massive stats boost. How would Seiya handle this new threat?

What did you think?

This series is hilarious. At the moment, Seiya is coming off as being a massive jerk. He talks down to Ristarte, is ungrateful to everyone he seems to meet, and tells Ristarte that he thinks the child’s lucky charm is a cursed object and he only kept it to bring the monsters to them quicker. Then, after he defeated Chaos Machina, he swept up her remains and burnt them to ashes, along with the village. Ristarte’s observation that they were more of a monster than Chaos Machina seems fairly accurate at this stage.

However, knowing how this ends, it makes a lot more sense. You can see why he acts the way he does, why he throws Ristarte off of him after they came through the portal or while she was celebrating their win. I’m not going to say anything to spoil it just yet, but everything will become clear in the later episodes. Until then, we get to enjoy his dry tones and Ristarte’s wild reactions. I think this is a great series and one that has been underappreciated for quite some time.

What was your highlight?

My favourite moment was when we realised that Seiya had been hiding his abilities and skills from Chaos Machina and Ristarte. His justification for this was amazing. As soon as he realised that Ristarte could view his stats, he decided that he needed to gain a skill that would mask them. If she could do it, maybe someone else could do it too. That proved to be a very good decision since the first enemy they encountered could see his abilities. The best part about this was that he hid it from Ristarte too. She was annoyed that it looked like he didn’t trust her, but his reason was even better.

Seiya was concerned that if there was a monster that could somehow access her brain, then the enemy would gain all of the information that she had. His levels of caution are incredible and since they seem to be paying off time and again, it’s hard to argue with his logic. Destroying all of the remains of Chaos Machina was definitely the right thing to do. I’ve seen Time Bandits and in that, they failed to get rid of all of the evil and paid dearly. Doing it in the middle of the village was probably not the best idea, but better to be safe than sorry! I’m perfectly prepared for the next episode!
