What happened?

Mia, Centorea, and Papi were on the run! Agent Smith knew about Suu and they were certain that she would have her deported. Unfortunately, in their haste, they forgot to take Kimihito with them, and none of them were allowed out without their host family. This was bad, especially as there seemed to be a lot of officers searching the park that they were hiding in. Their problems got worse when they discovered that Suu was drying up and desperately needed water. Papi opened a bottle of water, but dropped it and spilled the water all over her. Suu leapt onto her, absorbing the moisture from Papi’s body, much to Papi’s surprise. The others tried to keep them quiet, but it was too much for poor Papi to take. However, it wasn’t enough so Suu turned her attention to the others.

Meanwhile, Kimihito left the house when a crew of builders showed up to do more modifications to his house. It looked like Agent Smith was already making accommodations for Suu. Perhaps the girls overreacted. Leaving the workers to it, he headed out to try to find them. However, as he searched, he spotted a girl in a wheelchair racing down a slope, headed straight for a lamp post. He got there just in time, saving her from a terrible accident. Surprisingly, the girl had seen a group in the park that consisted of a lamia, a harpy, and a centaur and offered to show him where they were. After finding the girls who were locked in combat with a water-deprived Suu, he stepped in and caught Suu in a plastic bag. Then, Agent Smith showed up and revealed that she wasn’t paid enough to worry about illegal visitors and as far as she was concerned Suu was never there. If that were the case, why build a pool in the house?

It turned out that the pool was for Mero, the girl in the wheelchair who was actually a mermaid and was also coming to live with Kimihito. She was quite infatuated with Kimihito after he saved her, however, mermaids have a thing for unrequited love so she wasn’t a threat to Mia… well, sort of!

What did you think?

This was another great episode as the themes of misunderstandings and Agent Smith dumping monster girls on Kimihito continued. I have to wonder if she’s actually housing any girls anywhere else. Mind you it would make sense since she only has to check on one location to see how they are doing and she can always get a cup of coffee from Darling and maybe some breakfast. Anyhow, it was hilarious when it looked liked Agent Smith was making accommodations for Suu and that the girls overreacted only for that not to be true. However, Agent Smith revealing that she didn’t care that Suu was there because she wasn’t paid enough to care was perfectly in character. What’s one more monster girl anyhow?

And despite being a bit of a bland pushover, Kimihito showed exactly why each of these girls is instantly falling for him. He saved Mero from injury, hurting himself in the process without any knowledge that she was a monster girl or that she would be living with him. Given her love of The Little Mermaid fairy tale, it makes perfect sense. He always seems to be able to handle the situations no matter how crazy they get, including Suu who has lost her senses and is desperate to lick the sweat off of anyone and everyone in order to get some water. The revelation that Mero only wanted her affection for Kimihito to be turned down was hilarious too, although a little infidelity wouldn’t hurt…

What was your highlight?

I’ve noticed an interesting comparison between harem stories and action series. In an action series, the protagonist often faces a different antagonist from episode to episode. Sure, there are some that reappear, but the idea of having multiple antagonists is that each one presents a different problem for the protagonist to overcome. If they were all the same, it would get very boring, very quickly. Each one should also bring out something new in the protagonist. So, how does that relate to harem stories?

Well, instead of antagonists, we have potential love interests. Each one comes at the situation in a different manner, wanting a different thing from the protagonist. Mia wants an old-fashioned romance/long-term relationship. Papi just wants to have fun. Centorea wants a master to serve. At this stage, Suu is a bit of an enigma, so who knows what she wants? And then, Mero wants to be rejected. It’s basically, the same thing. If each of the love interests wanted the same thing, there would be no way for them to all co-exist and it would be really boring. As with everything, variety is the spice of life! Write that down!
