Author Journey (May 15, 2023)

2023 05 15 The Otaku Author Journey

After the previous week’s reassessment of my priorities, I spent a bit of time working out how things would work going forward. That meant rescheduling some posts and adjusting my plan for the second half of 2023.

Author Journey (May 15, 2023)

I returned to work with the day job last week because it’s month end and it was going to take longer for me to explain to someone else how to do it than do it myself. It’s a frustrating situation and something I will have to look at remedying once I have some downtime. At least, my office chair has good lumbar support. Luckily, everything went smoothly so I didn’t have to sit there for too long. Even good lumbar support hurts after a while. That left me with some time to relax. Other than, the ongoing issues with my back there were no other Real-Life Events. I’m as shocked as anyone!

The Weekly Recap!

It was another zero-goal week and while I didn’t focus on everything, I am back into the swing with regards to watching anime. I’ve often said how I’m a binge-watcher. I love to dive into the world and fully immerse myself. Most nights before falling asleep, I’ll watch three or four episodes… sometimes six if I’m really into it. While I was doing episode reviews, I couldn’t do that. Get too far ahead of myself and the reviews end up jumbled together. This is how I’ve historically watched my shows, so it’s nice to be back.

Oh yeah, so I ended up watching 36 episodes which included a twenty-episode season, a thirteen-episode season, and the two final episodes for my last two episode reviews, plus one show that I dropped. It feels kind of surreal that those will be my final ones for a while, but I’m also really happy with the posts I’ve been putting together for my new schedule.

I got to make the most of my Lazy Boy chair again this week as I read four manga volumes. Several had to go back to the library as I couldn’t renew them and it seemed like a good excuse to read them… not that I need an excuse.

With my posts, I put together the final posts for quarter two which is where my current schedule will end. There was a little rearranging to make it all fit nicely, but I’m glad that I did as I will start the third quarter with my new schedule which I’m going to talk about in a moment. Overall, I put together ten posts.

Once more, I didn’t do any drawing or writing but that’s mostly because of the amount of time I spent at my desk for the day job. I will hope to resume that side of things soon, especially as the day job should be quieter for a couple of weeks.

Aspirations for the Week!

There will be no goals this week and given how well things are going with my anime-watching routine, maybe that’s not a bad thing. It’s definitely going to change my entire schedule so I need to work on how I’m going to fit everything in. I’ve mentioned my new schedule for quarter three a couple of times now, so I should probably explain what I’m planning.

Right now, I’m publishing two or three posts a day. That’s a lot to keep up with and I’m not sure how I managed to trick myself into that schedule. So going forward, I’m only posting once a day. Easy by comparison. This is the plan.

  • Monday – Author Journey
  • Tuesday – Manga Review
  • Wednesday – Anime Season Review
  • Thursday – Manga Review
  • Friday – Top Five List Post
  • Saturday – Manga Review
  • Sunday – Analytical Post

Overall, the individual posts will be longer than the episode reviews, but there are fewer of them so I’ll get a lot of time back. I think the posts will be more interesting too as I’m going to look at diving into a particular aspect of a show that spoke to me. This should allow me to focus more time on writing and drawing. I really want to get back to publishing books on a regular schedule.

Final Thoughts

Starting today, there are seven weeks left in quarter two and I have all my posts scheduled. Obviously, it’s not going to take me seven weeks to fall into a routine, but I do have plenty of time to play around with things and as you may know, I like to schedule my posts ahead of time. In the last two weeks, I’ve watched three full seasons and have been writing up my posts for them. I should be able to build a nice buffer for the new routine too.

Shifting around the time I do things will help too. If I’m watching so much anime at night before bed, I can free up more time in the morning and around work where I can write without distraction. I have so many unfinished stories that I would like to complete and now I’ll have the time to do it. Changing up my entire routine has not been an easy decision, but at the same time, I realised that I need to write more. I don’t want to look back five years from now and wonder why I hadn’t published many books, if any.

All that said, I don’t regret getting into episodic reviews, but now is a good time to put them on ice. Anyhow, I need to work on my day-to-day schedule. I’m sure I’ll have even more to talk about next week. Thanks for reading.

  1. I’m looking forward to seeing the new reviews/analytical posts! Glad to hear real life relented her attack. It’s nice to have not to have to open new battle fronts from time to time!

    • Thanks. I’m curious to see how they do, too. I figure I’ve got enough going on right now that real life decided to give me break. No doubt she’ll come back with a vengeance at some point though.

What did you think?
