The Otaku Author Journey November 7 2022

So, the first week of NaNoWriMo has come to an end which means it’s time to reveal your word count. I’ll go first… I managed 11,132 words in six days. I’m not going to lie, feeling pretty pumped up right now.

Hot Topic

Not only have I kept ahead of the daily target and built myself a one-thousand-word buffer, but I’ve actually written at least one chapter a day for twenty-one days in a row. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to sit down and write without anything holding me back. Because my usual writing sessions tend to yield about a thousand words, I’ve been adding in extra sessions to keep up with the daily target of 1,667 words.

The most exciting thing about this is that I have a rough outline of what’s going to happen in the story, but no matter what time of day I sit down to write, I can jump straight back into the story and the words just keep coming. Of course, this has gotten me thinking about all the other stories I want to write. It feels like things are starting to turn around after the pandemic all but killed my creativity and desire to write.

What have I been watching/reading?

So, all that writing must have impacted on my ability to watch anime and read manga, right? Surprisingly not. Last week, I watched seven episodes of anime which finished off the season I started two weeks prior. I also read five manga volumes. I’m not sure how I’ve been able to reintroduce writing to my schedule without impacting my other endeavours but I’m delighted that it’s working this way. Long may it continue.

Anyhow, here’s what I posted last week.

I started posting my reviews of The Executioner and Her Way of Life which is an interesting take on the isekai genre. Well worth watching.

Mieruko-chan continues to impress me with its mix of horror and comedy. I love both the misunderstandings and the sheer terror.

Things have started to move again in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. In reality, it never stopped, but we did get some answers this time.

I love the demons in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen and Daki is proving to be another welcome addition to the cast.

Best girl, Rin gets to spend some time with Hayato in this episode of My Wife is the Student Council President!

In Sankarea: Undying Love the anime continues to develop the characters and show off some fantastic scenery, while the manga pushed beyond the anime in just the third volume.

Work in Progress

So, the Beach is now at thirty-two and half thousand words and there’s still a lot of story to tell. My progress with this one has got me excited to work on several of my other stories that are either in the planning stages or ready for a complete rewrite. I have so many incomplete projects that I will never run out of things to write about. It’s a great feeling, although it will be better when I am in a position to start publishing them.

The Plan

I’ve got to keep the words coming in my attempt to complete NaNoWriMo for the fourth time. I’ve also got several volumes of manga to get through a several anime series to watch. Honestly, I prefer it this way. I love to keep myself busy and feeling unproductive is one of my least favourite feelings. It’s probably a blessing and a curse as it’s hard to completely switch off. However, it seems to work for me, so I have no complaints.

Final Thoughts

So far so good for NaNoWriMo and it’s another step towards me getting my foot well and truly back into publishing. It’s been several years since I last published a book and I’m excited to put this break behind me. Hopefully, this week will allow me to continue to move forward on all fronts.

Anyhow, thanks for reading. Now, it’s time for me to get back to work.

    • Thanks. It’s always nice to have a buffer, although I’m still going to try to hit the daily target every day. Got to keep the momentum going.

    • It’s my best week in ages so now I just need to keep it up.

And, I’ve been thinking about the chapters and some will probably merge together in the editing phase and become scene breaks, but for now they are chapters.

What did you think?
