Author Journey (October 3, 2022)
I had a very busy and insanely productive week. It’s entirely possible that I have my fingers in too many pies, but I’ve started so I’m going to finish. Now, give me all the pies!

Hot Topic
Where do I start? All right, deep breath. Last week, I mentioned how I was going to start a whole bunch of manga series and had seventeen to pick up from the library and three to return. Well, I did that, read the three that all had holds on and returned them the next day. Only there were another twelve waiting for me to pick up! I didn’t think they would come in so quickly, so last week, I read a lot of manga. There are more to come, but I’m on a waitlist for those.
Last weekend also saw the beginning of Inktober which is something I’ve been meaning to take part in for some time. If I had been prepared, I would have done them all ages ago, but since this was a last-minute decision I’m doing these daily. So far so good, although I look around the other artists in the community and wonder if my kawaii line art characters are enough. I’m pretty sure, I’ll end up using some of them on this site once I’ve added some colour, so it makes sense. Part of me does want to try something bigger. Maybe once October is done… but then NaNoWriMo is on!
What have I been watching/reading?
Amazingly, I only watched one anime this week and that was Castle in the Sky with the kids. The biggest shock was that they say through the full two-hour movie and loved it. Movie nights are really tough with these guys as they would rather watch their iPads, so it was nice to actually watch a movie with them for a change. I, for one, am tired of listening to YouTubers screaming about whatever game they’re playing.
I did make a dent in my manga collection, reading eleven volume ones. I’m pleased to say that I will be continuing all of them so far as I have been thoroughly enjoying myself. Hopefully, the other twenty can keep up this trend (not to mention the ones I haven’t picked up yet). It’s been really interesting dipping into all these stories and noticing patterns. I’ve read a few volume ones from prominent shounen series and there are a lot of similarities.
Anyhow, here’s a quick look at what I posted last week.
Record of Ragnarok has stepped up its game as we enter the third fight. Could this save my viewing experience?
We’re well past the halfway point of the series, so Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is taking off the brakes. Better hold on, things are getting intense.
It’s the penultimate episode of Masters of the Universe: Revelation and Evil-Lyn’s new form may have saved the series. I said may have…
I posted my season review of Seven Mortal Sins and had a lot more fun than I was expecting. It wasn’t as dark as I was hoping for, but I don’t regret anything. This week, I have a new series of reviews coming.
It was the end of season one of My Wife is the Student Council President!, but worry not, I’m going straight into season two as soon as I’ve put together my overall thoughts on season one.
My Sankarea: Undying Love posts are picking up steam. Last week saw an episode review and a discussion post. Won’t be too long before my manga reviews come on line too!
Work in Progress
This week started as last week ended. I wrote three more chapters from Monday through Wednesday. Then, a Family Real Life Event took over. Basically, the Mrs went away for work on Thursday morning and came back on Sunday! That left me with two kids and a dog to manage. It’s not a huge deal as I do most of the regular things with them anyhow. The problem came with bedtime. Usually, the Mrs puts the boys to bed while I walk Gus and then I put him to bed. The whole routine got flipped around and that impacted my writing time.
Still, I added another three thousand words to Swap Isekai which is great. It’s still moving forward. I may have to have a quick read-through of what I have before continuing since I have a four-day gap to contend with. Of course, I am also doing Inktober, which is really just code for me practicing my skills before attempting to make a cover for RIP Tide. There’s always a plan. I generally don’t just do things without having a reason.
The Plan
I also did a bit of work rescheduling a number of my posts, moving things around and changing the way I track my progress. This new method is for 2023 as I have completed 2022 with the exception of my Author Journeys, a coming Anniversary post, a holiday post, and of course, Inktober.
Basically, going forward, I have split my posts into 08:00 posts which will be the regular series posts. They could be anime or manga, but it’s usually when I can review an entire series back to back. Next, I have 14:00 posts which will be the manga from the library that’ll I’ll be reviewing as the volumes become available to me. Finally, there are 20:00 posts which will be anime or manga with an ecchi focus.

So, I managed to put together a good number of scheduled posts. Of course, my new manga schedule and the reshuffling of posts leave me with considerably more to get through. However, I do love a challenge.

I could definitely start to worry after missing four days last week, but I had a good reason. Now, I just need to prove to myself that I can pick it up again and find the rhythm once more.
Final Thoughts
Over the years, I’ve gone back and forth about reviewing manga as well as anime and now, I appear to have decided to dive in. At present, my schedule has me planning on reviewing two hundred and eight volumes… Obviously, I can change that as I get closer, but it seems like it might be manageable. Anyhow, I’m excited to give it a go. What’s the worst thing that could happen? The more time I have, the more I try to fill it. I was originally planning on doing an end-of-quarter-three review, but the future is so much more exciting!
Anyhow, thanks for reading.
“I may have to have a quick read-through of what I have before continuing since I have a four-day gap to contend with.”
Those time gaps are murder. I haven’t figured out the maximum number of days yet!
Best to just keep writing and never face that problem ever again…
