Gunbured x Sisters (Volume 3) – When Nuns Cry!

After their encounter with the Pureblood, Dorothy is called to report on the situation. While that’s going on, Shannon asks Maria to talk with her. Shannon has worked out Maria’s secret and is prepared to do whatever it takes to keep Dorothy safe!
Gunbured x Sisters (Volume 3) – When Nuns Cry!
What happened?
Shannon knows that Maria is a dhampir and believes that she is using Dorothy for her blood. They even offer to let Maria drink her blood if she leaves Dorothy alone. However, Maria can’t do that since Dorothy told her that she could only drink her blood. Shannon then decides that they’re going to kill Maria even if it upsets Dorothy. Saving her is more important than keeping her favour. Unluckily for Shannon, Dorothy was standing behind her with her gun drawn and pointed at their head. Maria tells her to stop. Shannon leaves, their purpose shattered. Once back at Dorothy’s church, Maria lays into her for how she treated Shannon. Dorothy doubles down on her behaviour and tells Maria that she was only going to shoot Shannon a couple of times.
Maria decides to go for a walk, but before she leaves, Dorothy tells her where Shannon is likely to be… not that Maria is going to check on her or anything. Meanwhile, Shannon found a girl being attacked by a group of men and jumped in to help. The girl thanks Shannon and reveals that she is from out of town. Kiki asks Shannon to accompany her and help her find her way around. Maria has found Shannon and overhears a conversation between Shannon and Kiki about Dorothy and how they met. It turns out that Shannon is another of Dorothy’s pets. Then, as night arrives so does a wave of Doctor J’s Chimaera vampires and they are attacking all across town. It could be too much for the Crimson Sisters to handle!

What did you think?
While I am still enjoying this series, it still hasn’t done anything to get excited about. The story seems to be pretty standard and the characters are fairly ordinary. There’s nothing exactly wrong with that but it can end up feeling a little dull at times. That’s even more surprising to me when there are lots of elements that I love. I write stories about vampires and badass vampire hunters so this should be an easy win, but for whatever reason, I just can’t get into it. There are even the Yuri elements, and I love Yuri stories, but I don’t feel invested in their relationship because of how one-sided and disingenuous it feels.
Even a flood of Chimaera vampires wasn’t enough to grab my attention. Also, with the sudden introduction of Kiki, the werewolf vampire hunter, I can’t help but feel like the author was planning a much longer series than the four volumes this series got. I’m a little worried that the next volume will end without a conclusion because the series got cancelled or that things will be rushed to squeeze everything in before the end.

What was your highlight?
The best thing about this volume was definitely seeing Shannon and Maria learning to understand one another. I thought they made a great pair, maybe even more believable than Dorothy and Maria, but that might be because of how manipulative Dorothy is. I do have a soft spot for tomboy characters and Shannon definitely fits into that category. In fact, I think Maria might also fit the category despite having long blonde hair. Her attitude is much closer to Shannon’s than it is to Dorothy’s. I find that whenever these two end up together things get interesting. The scene where Shannon told Maria to drink her blood instead of Dorothy’s was very good and I love it when they end up fighting together.
On top of the late introduction of Kiki, we also met Helen and Miranda, a more experienced pair of Crimson Sisters who were also partners in the bedroom too. The strange thing about these two was that they were remarkably similar to Dorothy and Maria. Almost too similar. Anyhow, I think the main issue I have with this series is that there are lots of things that I don’t think are going to go anywhere. When I saw that this was a four-volume series, I assumed that it would be a shorter and more concise story, whereas it’s looking like it was either cancelled or abandoned as there is way too much for it to resolve in the final volume. Hopefully, I’ll feel different after I’ve read it.

This one looks really interesting. I have a soft spot for vampires/dhampirs.
Sadly, there are only four volumes so it never really has a chance to fully explore things. I’ve got one more to read and I just hope it manages to have an ending.
