What happened?

After seeing Sekiguchi flirting with Hachiya at lunch, Yukuhashi confronts him in a meeting room while they clean up. He tries to cuddle her, knowing that the meeting room won’t be used again that day and he’s also locked the door. Yukuhashi tries to distance herself, telling him that if he wants comfort he should ask Sekiguchi to help him out. He’s confused as to why she would bring Sekiguchi up. He’s there with her because he wants to be with her, not Sekiguchi. She realises that she said something silly and apologises. Hachiya asks if she’s still bothered by what happened at lunch, reinstating the fact that he likes her.

Yukuhashi, however, is struggling to believe that he could choose her over Sekiguchi. She’s still not developed any confidence in herself, despite being his girlfriend. She knows it’s silly, but she can’t just turn it around like that. He tells her that she’s adorable and he’ll tell her that as many times as it takes for her to understand. They kiss, but before it can get any further, Yukuhashi tells him they should wait. If they don’t return to their desks soon, people will notice. He tells her to go on without him as he needs to calm things down first. When she realises, she decides to help him calm down, but that just fires her up too and before they know it they’re having sex in the meeting room.

What did you think?

This episode showed us that despite Hachiya’s attention and his assistance that he likes her, Yukuhashi still can’t quite overcome her self-confidence issues. I think that’s fairly understandable given that she’s seen herself as completely ordinary for so long. She’s not into fashion or make-up and that doesn’t align with the standard ideas about beauty. Of course, she is beautiful and I like that Hachiya is prepared to remind her of that over and over again. Sadly, this sort of self-belief is usually something that has been drummed into people for years which makes it incredibly hard to get past. It’s unfortunate that they have not been able to be open about their relationship. I don’t think Sekiguchi would be quite so forward if she knew. Anyhow, Yukuhashi showed her true colours again, continuing to push against Hachiya when they were waiting for the person outside the meeting room to leave. It’s almost as if the thought of being caught is exciting her!
