Author Journey (August 9, 2021)

Where does all the time go? This week went on forever, but when I looked back at what I hadn’t done as much as I had planned. I guess Riff Raff was right when he said “It’s astounding, time is fleeting, madness takes its toll…”

#AmWriting
Firstly, if you got the reference in the opening paragraph then kudos to you. Anyhow, as I alluded to this has been an odd week. We started with a public holiday on Monday in Canada which always throws off my routine. After that, it was hard to really get going. I did get through some posts and did some editing of my paranormal rom-com novel so it wasn’t a complete loss. I was just hoping for more though.
As nothing much happened last week, let’s dive straight into my writing. I edited five chapters. One of which was one from last week that I highlighted as needing some work to get the foreshadowing in. I completed that which was almost like a rewrite of the chapter, but with a couple of lines that remained. It was mostly dialogue that caught the wraith of the red pen, but I keep versions so nothing is ever completely lost.
The other four chapters that I edited continued from where I had got to the prior week. There was a bit of action and a fairly awkward moment for one of my two main protagonists. It was mostly typos issues and a couple of times where I needed to clarify some things for anyone that wasn’t in my head when I wrote them. All in, I’m happy with how that went and will continue to work away at them this week.
I did want to get the editing done before I go on vacation, but that doesn’t seem likely. It’s not going to stop me from loading it onto my phone so I can continue to read it through and make notes for when I’m back. I may be on vacation, but my mind doesn’t ever switch off.
#Blogging
I got a nice notification from WordPress this week when I reached one-hundred thousand views on this site. The official start date was December 17, 2019, so I have done this in just over a year and a half. It’s nice to see progress and I’m sure that will continue as I cover more and more anime. Of course, at some point soon, I’m hoping to have some more fiction to add to the site too.
Last week, I was mostly working on my reviews of Heaven’s Lost Property and am halfway through the second season. It’s been a fun series to revisit and I think there’s a lot that I can analyse and use to strengthen my own writing, which is my main goal with my reviews.
Currently, I’m eleven weeks ahead of schedule so even if I take a couple of weeks off, I will still be well ahead of things. Of course, the chances of me not watching anything on vacation are pretty slim, but it most likely will be a series that I’ll look at as a bonus season review to complement my episodic format.
Last week also saw the final episode review of Otherside Picnic and with the full season review to come this week, I will just say that I loved the show and am reading the first light novel so you can expect good things. I also recently found out that it is based on an old Soviet science fiction story called Roadside Picnic and that seems quite believable.
After I’ve finished working through Heaven’s Lost Property, which has two movies as well as the second season, I have a number of other series lined up ready to go. I have two shorter shows and one really long one which will take more than a year to cover… that might be enough for you to guess what it is, but I’m excited to get into them, especially as two are shows that I haven’t seen before.
The hardest thing I’m finding is not wanting to watch and review everything at such a granular level, but that must mean that I enjoy doing it, which I hope comes across in the reviews. I appreciate that I’m not going to like everything, but I at least give it a fair shot and try to see what I can learn from them. After all, if you’re not learning, you’re moving backwards.
I’m looking to improve on last week’s efforts and will try to keep a handle on time. So, thanks for reading and stay safe.

Editing 5 chapters is pretty good I think. Congrats on your 100k views!
Thanks. I’m pretty happy with the progress, but would always love a little more…
Congrats on the 100k views! I look forward to your wrap-up review for Otherside Picnic and your dive into the light novel series, too! 👍
Thanks. It was a good series and I enjoyed it immensely. I’ve almost finished the first light novel and there’s quite a bit more detail than the anime. (I know, surprising, right?!)
But listen closely – Not for very much longer! – I’ve got to keep control.
I remember doing the Time Warp…
Drinking those moments when
The blackness would hit me
And the void would be calling
Let’s do the Time Warp again
Let’s do the Time Warp again
It’s just a jump to the left
And then a step to the right
With your hands on your hips
You bring your knees in tight
But it’s the pelvic thrust
That really drives you insane
Let’s do the Time Warp again
Let’s do the Time Warp again
Well done on getting 100,000 hits so quickly. It took five years to hit that target on my blog…
Thanks, I did have a little head start as I had been running a blog on another URL for a year before moving to this one. Still very happy to hit that milestone.
