Author Journey (July 4, 2022)

The Otaku Author Journey July 4 2022

Quarter 3 of 2022 begins today and that means it’s time to shift my focus from blogging to writing. It’s been too long since I’ve been writing consistently, so my goal for the rest of the year is to change that.

Hot Topic

I had lofty plans for last week and then I hit a couple of speed bumps. Monday was a right off with one of my boys staying home. From Tuesday to Thursday I was super productive and clawed back a lot of the slack. But then Friday blindsided me. Having lived on three different continents each with slightly differing public holidays, I always forget about them. So, I was not expecting Canada Day which meant I lost another day. I shouldn’t really complain though…

On top of that, I decided to bump a series that I had originally planned on starting back in May for the third time. My rationale makes sense this time at least. It’s a twenty-four-episode season and I didn’t want to watch up to episode nine and then only watch an episode here and there. So, I decided to start a new series that is only twelve episodes long. I’m still absolutely focused on putting my writing first for the rest of the year, though.

What have I been watching/reading?

My main focus for last week, which was primarily Tuesday to Thursday was Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood as I finished off all the episodes I have scheduled to review this year. That takes me up to episode fifty and things are just about to get crazy. There’s no way I’m not going to finish this series before the end of the year. Maybe even the end of July. I only have fourteen episodes left!

Anyhow, here’s a quick look at what I posted last week.

It was aired as episode three of Peach Boy Riverside… In reality, it was episode nine. There’s just no way this episode could have made any sense as the third episode as so many other episodes flow into this one. Great episode, crazy release schedule.

This was the episode before the second break I took while watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. It was purely on a numbers thing, but it did work as a great stopping point as there is a massive cliffhanger.

This was the first time I felt like Magical Girl Apocalypse had pushed itself too far with the various timelines and time travel theory. It’s still a great series.

I also released my season one review of Kandagawa Jet Girls. This week, I’ll be looking at an OVA and I also wrapped up Why the hell are you here, Teacher!? That means there will be a new ecchi series on Wednesday evening. Stay tuned for more!

Work in Progress

For a while now, I’ve been working towards this point. I’ve been blogging away like a man possessed and even though I’m not quite there yet, I think I’m close enough that I can start turning my time to my creative projects. That starts today! My goal is to get a chapter done a day, hopefully averaging 1,667 words a day which keeps me at a NaNoWriMo pace, which is something I know I can do relatively easily. Once I get comfortable with that again, I’ll push for more, but it’s a great starting target.

The Plan

Other than my weekly Author Journey posts that I have to do weekly, I have just twenty-six posts still to complete for 2022. It would have been slightly less had I not bumped the longer series to 2023, but it makes sense. That series came out in 1985 so there’s no real rush to get my thoughts down.

I currently have one-hundred and sixty-one scheduled posts. That’s definitely the most I’ve been able to prepare ahead of time and it seems more than a little crazy to me, but then I still did it and that will buy me the time to really focus on writing. This pandemic has sapped my creative energy for long enough. I’m coming back with a vengeance.

The Sankarea manga remains the largest outstanding part. I am planning on doing that series a little slower just because the manga posts tend to take me longer to pull together. I also have the new series I chose and since I had already done three episodes of the one that got bumped, I lost some numbers that have been pushed into 2023.

I’m pretty sure that these are the main projects I will be focusing on and by the next weekly post, I’ll have a slightly different tracking format. Either way, the numbers should start to change. Scratch that, they will change.

Final Thoughts

As of July first, I hit a pretty exciting milestone for this site. It was the day that I reached 100,000 views for the year. As a point of contrast, in the whole of 2021, I had 75,000 views total. At this rate, 2022 could end up around 200,000 which is an insane jump in numbers so I’m exceedingly happy about that. It just goes to show that consistency and hard work pays off. I mean, it hasn’t paid me anything yet, but I feel like the site continues to move in the right direction. Now, if I can start to add some original fiction to the mix, that would be amazing.

Anyhow, thanks for reading.
